Well, at least the NMR arc showed that Luna's appearance seems to tie to her emotions, when she got her confidence boosted she gained the look she has from season two onward. Works for me.

I've been staying awake until 6am for a bout a year now, it's not so bad for me, but I guess I'm used to it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I love staying up late, it's so peaceful. The problem is I also love waking up early, because I feel like I'm getting more out of the day.
