RE: Upcoming Movies - Rares - 09-14-2017

J.J. Abrams is now confirmed to be back for Episode 9. This honestly raises a bit too many red flags. With this in mind, and the news about what drama has happened with the Han Solo movie, I have some serious concerns for the future of the franchise. I think this continues to put too much weight on 8's shoulders that I'm not sure it'll be able to take much more of.

RE: Upcoming Movies - Kaltes-Herzeleid - 12-07-2017

More information released on Halloween 2018. Honestly I think this is going to be my most anticipated movie of next year. I'm happy to hear that the writers have such high regard for the original movie and understand that pointless gore isn't frightening, I think it's been a long, long time since a truly atmospheric, tense horror movie has been made.

The only thing I'm really against is the idea of Michael Myers not being an unstoppable killing machine...I mean for thing he already was that in the first movie to begin with, and not to mention he was the one that started the whole silent, nigh invincible killer trope in the first place. I take comfort in the fact that John Carpenter is involved, and he has said he likes the script very much so I think that's a good sign. I hoping it just means they're toning some of Michael's strength and durability down in contrast to some of the other sequels. John himself has said multiple times Michael is not human so I really don't think he'd let them change that aspect.

I suppose I'm a tad defensive of the whole "Michael isn't human" aspect because I think it's a core part of the character. He's something more than human. He's pure evil, the Boogeyman, The Shape. The only thing that links him to humans is that he looks like us, that's it. Like a piece of darkness that split off from itself and landed in our world, looking similar to a human, but not a thought or desire in his mind is human. He has incredible strength and can defy death seemingly without end. And can practically be anywhere, at any time. If they fully take this aspect away, it detracts from the character.

Ramble and slight worries aside, still eagerly waiting for this movie. It's the first time in well over decade a slasher movie hasn't been a shitty remake or unwanted prequel, I hope it proves to be highly successful.
