RE: Movies just watched - Theatre V1 - Kaltes-Herzeleid - 01-13-2017 Thief (1981). Great movie, very underrated. It was particularly fascinating to see the themes that Michael Mann's films deal with appear for the first time in contrast to how they would manifest in later works. RE: Movies just watched - Theatre V1 - Kaltes-Herzeleid - 01-20-2017 Pumpkinhead (1988). Great monster movie, loved the atmosphere of it and the creature design was awesome. Haven't seen it since, 1997/1998, somewhere in there. From what I recall it does have a great monster design, and wonderful practical effects. Unfortunately, I can't recall the atmosphere very well, but now I know what movie is next on my list. Thanks, Kaltes! RE: Movies just watched - Theatre V1 - Rares - 01-22-2017 I saw The Founder today. A movie about the expansion of McDonald's, with Michael Keaten. Honestly I didn't know anything about that story, and by no means is it feel good at all. You really feel bad for the two, original McDonald's brothers who started the damn thing, compared to the salesman who basically took it away from them, and expanded way too fast outside their comfort zone. Honestly though, they did get a lot of money, but seeing them cheated the way they were, I feel terrible for them. It was a good movie to watch, but it won't make you feel good. Too bad I had the movie ruined for me in a way with, simply put an audience member who made me very uncomfortable with some actions he did. RE: Movies just watched - Theatre V1 - Kaltes-Herzeleid - 01-26-2017 Pumpkinhead II: Blood Wings (1994). Since I'm a completionist and because we both liked the original so much I decided to check out the sequels. This one was...okay. Not in continuity with the original at all and the special effects were meh. It wasn't terrible, that's all we can really say for it. I heard three and four are better. RE: Movies just watched - Theatre V1 - Kaltes-Herzeleid - 01-27-2017 Pumpkinhead: Ashes to Ashes (2006) and Pumpkinhead: Blood Feud (2007). Finally finished up our Pumpkinhead binge watch, these sequels were surprisingly good, since the more I thought about Blood Wings the more I realized it sucked. These two movies weren't as great as the first, but they still had a lot of great elements to them, solid effects (save for really bad CGI), good acting (especially Doug Bradley playing a deliciously evil bastard in the third movie), and were well paced. All in all, a satisfying experience. RE: Movies just watched - Theatre V1 - Gentian - 01-28-2017 Just finished Pumpkinhead (1988), as per Kaltes's recommendation. I must say I was mistaken. This is not the Pumpkinhead I remember, it must have been a sequel that I saw. This one is fantastic, and Kaltes was dead on about the atmosphere. RE: Movies just watched - Theatre V1 - Rares - 01-28-2017 Today I saw Split, the new M. Night Shyamalan movie. Thought it was alright, though I thought the very, very end had a weak conflict resolution. Could have been handled better, but hey, it's an M. Night movie, what else should I have expected. But it was a particularly interesting thriller movie, and wasn't straight up horror. RE: Movies just watched - Theatre V1 - Kaltes-Herzeleid - 01-30-2017 The Accountant (2016). Great movie, watched it with Nightmare and my mother. RE: Movies just watched - Theatre V1 - Rares - 02-12-2017 The LEGO Batman movie was really fun, I enjoyed it quite a bit. It was silly, especially if you're a Batman fan, there's a lot of in-jokes. The animation is also top quality, and the voice actirs are all fantastic. It also has a bit of heart in it too. The plot might be the weakest bit if anything, as it comes off as a child playing with various toys, but again, that's not entirely unlike the first LEGO movie, so that's not all that bad. |
