S3E7 Wonderbolt Academy

It's starting to seem a bit odd how it feels like every-time Dash encounters the Wonderbolts they always forget their previous encounter. But I felt this was another good episode on Dash's character, and a good sign of where her loyalties lie, and they're not with herself as some might try to say. By no means a selfish pony. I must say though, honestly I'm a bit shocked we haven't seen Lightning Dust again, I kinda liked her character as basically what people accuse Dash of being sometimes.

S3E8 Apple Family Reuinion

I couldn't find much wrong with this one. Honestly I felt it was pretty decent on everyone's character, and the song was really rather pleasant. I suppose the only reason I didn't think much of it is because I never thought much for Applejack. But it was enjoyable for me. Babs Seed heavily forced New York accent is atrocious, however.

S3E9 Spike at your Service

Thank goodness Rarity wasn't in AJ's role as originally planned for this episode. Not that it was that bad compared to what others might say, but it was still "eh" for me. Not really of interest, and seemed a bit forced. Though it did get a big smile from the bit where they were trying to fake the timberwolf attack. but that big timberwolf being beat by a pebble? That was odd. Either way though I felt like while it wasn't great, it wasn't as horrible as it's made out to be. I guess it just might be out of people not liking Spike or something. I mean, not that I'm very fond of him either.

S3E10 Keep Calm and Flutter On

Feels like a wish on a monkey paw. While I've been saying there should be more time spent with the Mane 5, not Twilight, with Celestia, it's this. Smack in a season at least trying to make things feel like they're setting up for Twilight being an alicorn. But the way this episode is done, it's all over the place, and obvious Discord is still a villain with no real redemption. It feels like Fluttershy is way too trusting of him, when she was the most angry with him in Return of Harmony. It just feels so out of place, this whole episode, like they didn't quite know what they were doing. Discord shouldn't have been redeemed, that's for sure.

S3E11 Just for Sidekicks

This one stank. And all the accusations that Rarity was being greedy, that was awful, Spike was the one demanding payment, and the gem Rarity gave was of extreme value. But it also just wasn't entertaining. And Angel is definitely an awful character, worse than Opal for sure. Bluh.

S3E12 Games Ponies Play

Another episode that I felt really wasted my time, and there's nothing that quite grinds my gears like that. I mean, I really hated that we know that the pony isn't the critic is shown thatmuch, along with Harshwinny. They could have at least not revealed her. And the resolution of the conflict still baffles me, it was like Harshwinny said it was the worst thing she ever, yet on that other pony's opinion, which she claimed was unbiased, suddenly it's perfect? What? And why did Rainbow Dash apologize, what did Rainbow Dash do wrong other than pushing for the games to get selected for there, which is what everyone else was trying to do. This just wasn't that good.

S3E13 Magical Mystery Cure

Wow. There's a lot to address in this one.

First off, this episode wasn't bad. Honestly I disliked Twilight's Kingdom so much more than this, and I think most of the bad rep for this, as well as the rest of the season, comes from the shitstorm of drama with implications that Twilight is a Princess, when it has far calmed down now because for better or for worse, they have not really done all that much with it now, and she hasn't really changed. But that's a different story. What I think really at least makes the episode bearable is the stellar use of songs. They were what really made it a bit more enjoyable to watch. The plot itself wasn't bad, except the question should be raised why Twilight's own element wasn't affected in the scrambling, and I think separating that from the princess aspect would have made for a much better episode. Which leads us to the bulk of the problem: This episode should have been a two-parter. Either that awful Games Ponies Play episode should have been dumped, or they should have scrapped Crystal Empire. The main problem of the episode was solved in the first 12 minutes, with the remaining 10 devoted to Twilight ascending. And I'm sorry to all you Twi-lovers, but on that basis alone, Twilight did not deserve to be a Princess. Maybe with a little more, but here's what honestly should have been reworked: MMC should have been the season premier at one episode, simple plot and could have been solved on it's own, and maybe Crystal Empire should have been tweaked, especially with the Twilight's test part (and I mean especially, you already saw my thoughts of that) to make it appear more natural for it to happen. As it stands, I still maintain Celestia as shown in the show has a heavy unfair bias towards Twilight.

And that was the big problem of S3 if anything, it continues to this growing power gap between Celestia, Twilight, and the Mane 5. But more on that as it worsens in other seasons, especially in the future finales of the show. In comparison, at least they did something in this, and if it was tweaked, it could have been on part with Best Night Ever.

But S3 wasn't that bad upon hindsight, and again, I feel like it was the drama storm as well as the shorter season length. Honestly I was more disappointed with what I've seen of future seasons, but this season had its moments (despite a lack of a certain pony's episode...). If this season had more to it, or consisted of the first half of S4 to fill up it, it would have been held in a much higher regard I'm sure. This season did push that Celestia bias, but it definitely worsens in S4, but more on that later. This was just way too rushed with Twilight, and I think it would have been better spent if they waited to make it the theme of S4 instead.

...well, yeah, I can't really dispute that.
