MLP-fandom differences - RML - 08-18-2016 Gentian was interested in differences between Russian- and English-speaking parts of MLP-fandom, so i'm starting this thread. Due to my problems with English, i wont be able to write it all in one day, so this will be long-living one, i suppose. And, of course, i'll be glad if you make my life little easier and ask some questions on the topic. And there would be some history of RU MLP imageboards. Disclamer: I'm not familiar with blogs, or social network parts of fandom, so this thread would be firstly about imageboards, because RU-fandom started and grew on boards. But i have some friends to ask if you're interested in it too. First part will be about some general similarities and differences. Like 4chan's /mlp 2ch.hk's /mlp (that's Russian largest imageboard) have some "traditional" threads, almost 95% of threads are traditional. There are general-thread, chatacter-threads, art-threads etcetera, etcetera, we'll talk about it later. The first big and the most important difference between 2 boards is that Russian /mlp/ have quite strong moderation, many (for imageboard) rules and that was agreement of anons from the creation of it. The main idea is something like "let's make board customizable, so it could be nice for every type of bronies\ponyfags". Of course, this system isn't working perfect, but still generally board live in peace. Ponyname-lovers visit ponyname thread, artists are sitting in "Arts school" thread and that's nice for me. The second big difference is about size of ru-fandom at all. It's 5-10-20 times smaller, so on it's much easier to meet someone on board with who you talked somewhen before. Thread diversification makes it even more easier. That makes board somehow more cozy. But still, it's an imageboard. Next time i'll talk about some problems of board. Thanks for taking the time to share your knowledge with us. With the fandom being so much smaller, and more organized, and it being so much more likely to run in to people you already know, does this mean users try to crreate reputations for themselves? Anonymity is considered a good thing on the English boards, and those with names are generally regarded as attention-whores. Is it different on the Russian side? RE: MLP-fandom differences - RML - 08-19-2016 Sorry, i did not sleep well today, i'll just answer to Gentian and fall down to bed. General thread was ponyfag chat from the begining, In almost every character thread there are some old, well-known visitors. And on board self-identify could be even easier, since you can attach a qutie-mark of pony from series to your post. But the funny thing is: i dont really think it is bad. Otherwise, anonymity usually using as a "shout-from-the-crowd simulator". And really, there aren't many totaly anonymous post (without name, or picture, or qutie-mark, or other detectable stuff) that is not provocative, or just not-friendly post. (and there are many acute themes to discuss and word-fight) Anonymity discredited itself, since 2ch.hk became popular and "fashionable" imageboard. RE: MLP-fandom differences - RML - 08-21-2016 Today, i will talk about first and the most important problem for me. I'm talking about mlp r34. Russians attitude on this theme is not as univocal as on 4chan. Of course, there are many lovers of r34, but their numbers are nearly 40% from all. You can be sure, that ponies are important for all ponyfags\bronies across the world. And the problem is simple: stop liking what i dont like\stop not liking what i like. All (including suggestive pics, copypastes etc) r34-related content on Russian /mlp/ outside specialised threads. But still, this problem cant be solved. Somebody love to troll, somebody sincerely cant understand other sides position. I'm not sure how you got that "40%" amount of the fandom. Also I don't get what you mean, are you saying you don't like R34 of your waifu ? Or just R34 in general ? |
