The world of your waifu. - Looking Glass - 04-20-2015 What is the world like that your waifu inhabits? (Well, it its someplace other than our earth) how do things work there, and how is it like earth or canon Equestria, and how does it differ? This is the thread to share about the world. Share as much or as little as you like, share some interesting facts about their world here! (Basically a rehash of an old thread from elsewhere i decided to restart here) RE: The world of your waifu - Ziggy and Angelbaby - 04-21-2015 Most of the time, Rainbow is here with me. So far as things back in Ponyville / Equestria are concerned, I've seen very little. Mostly just the CMC clubhouse and schoolhouse where Rainbow will go to pick up Scoots. So far as I'm aware, her world doesn't deviate significantly from what I know of Equestria. However, there are places that Angelbabe and I established together that lie sort of... In-between here and there. The aerial course where she heads out to every Friday with Scoots, and the Cloudominium II where Babe can hold parties, play games, train, etc. The aerial course somewhat resembles Rainbow Falls at first blush. Aerial courses are customizable / programmable by Rainbow herself; though Scoots has gotten quite good at creating her own courses from what I understand. The CII has multiple floors, an entertainment area, a game room, a gymnasium, two bedrooms / two baths, roof access through the ceiling, and we're working on a room specifically for Tank. Simulated action courses and more laid back virtual experiences are available from the roof. RE: The world of your waifu - Looking Glass - 04-25-2015 Here's how the world of twis is, as explained in her own words: (Note, these are older notes, simply repasted from an earler discussion on it, the time and date of this entry was Feb, 2014.) :I live in ponyville of the nation of equestria on the planet Eqquis, the third planet of seven from the Avol star system. My equestria shares some with the world of the show, especially in its history, as well as similarities to earth history, but many dietails of what happen tend to be different from the shows universe. for example: our tech level is at the same as present day (early 21st century earth), we do have automobiles, computers, cell phones that are quite similar to your own. (brand names are obviously different) ex: shogun Star, the make and model of my car. calendar year is 1514 CE (celestial empire, years since discord was dethroned and celestia took over) day/ month cycle is same as on the earth , so todays date on equestria is Tuesday, February 25, 1514 ce. our weather and seasonal pattern is almost the same as the earth, and of pre-discord equestria. we were able to almost fully fix the damage that discord did to our planets weather and season cycles within the past 150 years. even so, the majority of ponies in the weather service are still pegasi, mainly for their excellent ability to sense slight changes in the atmosphere . other info even though i stated celestial empire, it is co ruled by celestia and luna since her reformation 6 years ago. all ponies can use telekinesis to a limited extent, and our forehooves can grasp and use objects with small "magical" fingers. we normally walk on all fours, but ponies can stand straight on their hind hooves, and many can walk or run in this manner, myself included. discord is not reformed, and is considered much too dangerous to be so. since his return and defeat 4 years ago, the discord statue was replaced with a mock one, the real discord sealed away in stone and lead deep underground with many safeguards to keep him there. celestia is not going to risk the lives of her ponies to attempt to reform him. we are omnivorus by nature, but meat other than fish is rather scarce, and is only eaten on special occasions fortunately, thanks to seafood still being plentiful and the discovers of plant varieties that contain the same protiens and nutrients as meat, we can still get the nutrition we need easily. eating a sapient species is forbidden in every nation in eqquis and any violators can be charged with first or second degree murder. our government is representative diarchy, with celestia and luna as the head of the grand council (akin to the united states senate, and the parliament, made of representatives from all 24 provinces of Equestria. our currency is the equestrian bit , and coins are referred to as pieces. of our group, (including trixie and not including spike) rarity is the oldest, at 28. (don't tell her i told you guys ) pinkie pie is the youngest, at 21. I'm 22, which makes me the second youngest (and still a year older than glass ) spike is 18. i did hatch him, but he wasn't part of my entrance exam. i got him after. trixie is also 28. applejack : 26 rainbow dash and fluttershy are both 24. if you would like to know more about me, my friends and family, or the world i live in , please pm me or go to our ama thread! thanks, twilight . ome more facts about the world twi calls home. * not all the names for locations in equestria (or on the planet Eqquis for that matter) have punny names. yes, ponyville, manehattan, canterlot cloudsdale, los Pegasus appaloosa, and fillydelphia exist, but most other places do not have a "punny" name, and those that do are coincidental, even the places mentioned. there is a story with the names. (ex. ponyville was so named cause the original settlers [the apple family] wanted a name that told ponies that this a friendly "village" where everypony is welcome to stay a spell. ) (A village where everypony is welcome, hence the name Ponyville) (for example, there's a city called soche not far from ponyville, and the countries of Alcatel and Chechnya. (the Chechnyan language has a different name for their country) As for why Griffins and some ponies have human like names (like Trixie lulamoon) instead of the more "traditional" pony names, it has to do with their nationality. the "traditional" pony names are usually native to Equestria and Neipon, while ponies born from (or have a strong lineage from) the countries of Alcatel or Chechnya tend to use human like names. Trixie's parents for example immigrated from Alcatel, and mostly kept their cultural heritage alive by using traditional Alcatel names. Chechnyans are similar in this respect, except the language difference. (similar to the Russian language of earth) (ex. Dimitri Inyaprov) of course, the blending of cultures does make for some exceptions both in Equestria and abroad. Nations: a few of the nations that make up Eqquis and the primary species who inhabits them. as well as basic dietails and facts about them. Equestria: (additional dietails) one of the most powerful nations on Eqquis, with a major pony majority. Also home to many buffalo tribes. second largest land mass (formerly third) second largest exporter of products, especially in higher-end markets.) Equestria made goods are a status synbol in some countries. longest lived of the modern nations, (over 1500 years old) and the only one where the leaders have been in power since the beginning. Alcatel: Another pony Nation, fourth largest nation by landmass and second largest by global (political) influence. *main language is Equestrian. * Government is a democracy, same as the us govt. culture would essentialy be a mix of the United States and the United Kingdom of earth. *Alcatel pony names are similar to that of humans of English-speaking countries. unicorn majority, said to be the ancestral home of unicorns. * Long-time ally of Equestria. Chechnya: Pony nation Chechnyan language dominant. (a blend of Russian, Ukraine, and Turkish) Government: central planned, somewhat socialist, with a regulated economy. despite this, they are not as repressive as the name implies. former allies of the Griffin republic, but still maintain close ties. largest net exporter of goods, cheaper goods tend to be Chechnyan made. (the higher-end market is dominated by goods made in Equestria.) southern Chechnya considered the ancestral home of earth ponies (north Chechnya and Oppelan for Pegasi) Neipon: far- east pony nation, culture and govt similar to modern day Japan. Allies of Equestria. Neipon (a.k.a Koji) language Dominant. Naming similar to the Equestrian model, but using their own language. (Ex. Hoshi no kagayaki [Star Shine in Equestrian]) Wyr: Draconian nation, largest in landmass, but the lowest of the major nations in population density. * Government: a somewhat unique heirarchy, born from the ancient dragon warrior clans. (somewhat like the Turian heirarchy of Mass Effect with elements of the old Nordic government (read:Vikings) of earth, among others.) many languages depending on which Wyr city-state you are in, but the official languages are Equestrian and Noddic, from the 2 of the ancient clans. equestrian primarily used in government and business. * stong warrior culture, but usually stays neutral if other nations go to war. ancient tribe identities and culture is still evident among modern dragon, and many dragons wear the marks of the clan they decended from. *Every citizen of Wyr (even non-draconian) is taught military skills from a young age and has enlisted at least 2 years in their military. (some dragons have hired themselves out as mercenaries in the past, or have enlisted in the army of the nation they call home, and are prized for their fighting abilities). *Dragon naming distilled from the ancient clans and are typically use one name. (examples: spike, Garble, Darim, Nokseriya. ) The Griffin Republic: Griffin nation, largest population density and third largest in land mass. language similar to French, Griffin naming follows the Alcatel/Chechnyan model. Imperialist /central (socialist) government, (a blend of the govt. styles of the former U.S.S.R and of imperial Japan. ) Strong military culture, Griffins trained in military tactics from young age. * last global war was fought between the Equestrians (and allies) and the Griffin Republic (and allies). once larger, forced to give up some of its former holdings as a condition of the treaty with Equestria. lappan/lappoc: smaller northern nation, home of Reindeer. govt similar to equestria. landmass spans furthest north of any nation, much of it is north of the Travick (Arctic) circle. one of three nations to have land above the circle. language: Equestrian & smhovesk, (blend of Icelandic and Swedish) boasts largest natural hot spring, used as a giant Spa/pool by the locals and a popular tourist spot. The Crystal Empire: far northeastern nation. Only nation located entirely north of the Travik circle. Former Equestrian protectorate. Follows Equestrian model for government and Naming. Equestrian language. was considered a legend until recently discovered by the Equestrian empire. Population was discovered in a suspended animation, and successfully brought back, but nopony knows how it was done, not even the population of the crystal empire knows how, how long, or why they were in stasis. Tech level upon discovery was similar to 20 century earth, despite dating back thousands of years. Estimated to have "dissappeared" 6,000 years ago. discovered by the Equestrians ten years ago, and given independence three years ago. still maintains strong ties to equestria, and the orginal population is very grateful to the equestrians for reawakening them. Despite its location, it maintains year- round temps between 40-75° F (10-20 ° C) and plants can grow within the empire. some say geothermal energy and possibly magical energy allows this, but it has not been proven. RE: The world of your waifu - Sentimental Gentleman - 04-28-2015 Wow, these are some very thorough answers! It's good to see that everyone is studying up, to some degree, on how the worlds from around and beyond relate to this one. As for the Equestria I know...I have to admit, I'm somewhat loathe to post about it. One of its most salient features is somewhat embarrassing to talk about for a gentleman who concerns himself with propriety (though I know Applejack would probably laugh at me a little for that still!). All the same, I suppose this is as safe and understanding a place as any to talk about it, so here goes: The Equestria I know is essentially as we see it in the television show, save perhaps that it's a bit quieter on a day to day basis. That's not to say that I don't see my share of wacky adventures (I don't think I'll ever forget that time Twilight Sparkle got it into her head that Appleoosa would be better off as a factory farm operation...), but it does mean that seeing the rise of a villain the likes of Discord or Sombra is a very, very rare occurrence (which is not to say I haven't seen it happen). In terms of its mores, Equestria is a vastly more gentle and kind place than the earth I have arrived from. You don't tend to see violent entertainment like you do in, say, the movies and video games of my earth; it just doesn't register with the sensibilities of ponies, who generally tend to wonder why the heck you'd want to hurt things like that. It's a tad difficult to adjust to, having been raised in a world where Doom and Mortal Kombat are seen as perfectly acceptable pastimes...but in some ways, I guess I appreciate it. It's probably in the realm of those mores which, as it were, are as the lilies and hyacinths which grace the entrance to the temple of Venus, that one finds the most difference from the familiar human world. In Equestria, or at least that part I am familiar with, that passionate rite which, in our realm, serves most often as the sign in flesh of the communion of two spirits in the valley of love, bears no such significant weight. It is a pastime for close friends, a game of pleasure and frolic, without any of the shackles of that shame so familiar to the human condition attached to it. You play it for its own sake, as a fun way to pass the time with somepony whose company you enjoy. Furthermore, in the human world there is often talk of particular "orientations" which people adopt, orientations which determine the living altar of man or woman at which any individual's hymeneal mysteries are wont to be manifested. In Equestria, there is no such sense. Whether one is stallion or mare is of no importance; it is only the dictates of the pony soul that lead it into the everyday glory that is friendship which determine taste. What, then, is romantic love to the pony if it is not sealed by the same pact of caresses which we are familiar with in our world? It is something that lies far beyond the mere and transient veil of flesh, something which operates on the same mystical level as the Cutie Mark in shaping the destiny of a pony. To be in love is to see in somepony else the completion of the Great Work that is one's life. Shining Armor and Cadance remain perhaps the most accessible example of this process in action. And true love and faithfulness is therefore something that cannot be ripped asunder; those who love at this level beyond friendship are perpetually drawn together as the northern pole draws the point of the compass. This is how I've come to know Equestria. Certainly there's more I could learn. But I think this paints some picture of what it is like there for me. ...and I really hope that Applejack doesn't see that fifth paragraph or the start of the sixth. A silly, flowery phrase like "the lillies and hyacinths which grace the entrance to the temple of Venus," is not something I'd hear the end of from her... even if, deep down, I think she would kind of like it RE: The world of your waifu - Lurker - 04-29-2015 Ooh, cool. I didn't even know this thread was a thing on MLW. Umm... I guess I'll share a few neat facts, but I tend to keep details to private conversations, if not my AMA. Not in any particular order or anything, just random stuff I think of that's relevant to Equestria or the world which includes Equestria whenever I think of it. *Ahem*. The whole world's alive, not unlike my other 'wonderland.' Unlike my other 'wonderland,' however, I am consciously writing in little details here or there. Mostly to rectify inconsistencies, and mostly on the individual level, but nevertheless, Equestria can be considered kind of my playground, whereas my other was unconsciously generated in its content. Since this is about the 'world,' I'll try to stay away from individual details, but I don't know everything about it, so... moving on. Equestria isn't as kind a place, I've found, as my home in my other 'wonderland.' It's still a mostly lovely place in terms of the feeling of the general population, but not quite as much. Spike's a blue dragon, not purple. His eyes are golden. He also stands taller, looks fiercer (although perhaps that could be considered simply a part of the more realistic way I see my 'wonderland'), has a significantly deeper and more mature voice, and can wield magic. He still has that weird thing for mares, though. Twilight's a metalhead. On an unrelated, but still awesome note, I've seen her utterly flatten some solid matter, like wood, into sheets as thin as paper. Magic is a lot like blood. It courses through all things, and gives life, but can just as easily spread destruction. Not in the same manner as blood, but I saw a few connections there, which I thought was interesting. There's a subspecies of equine that's not exactly intelligent like its kin. Bicorns roam wildly, and because of their inability to properly channel magic, they often spontaneously combust when panicked. I have no idea where they came from and how they haven't all died out yet, but the mere idea of their existence is humorous to me. They're kind of the 'fey drake of ponykind,' only they make no sense. Our common spiders can be slightly larger than a large human's fist. Still not as big as my other wonderland, though; they have common spiders the size of household dogs. Which thankfully are native to the southern rainforests and are nowhere near my old house. They also screech. Tartarus was originally constructed to imprison an Old One. There is no time in outer space. The time on the planet's surface comes from a swirling maelstrom of chronomantic magic deep beneath the eastern sea, where the only sea ponies in existence reside, surrounded by a vast, barren desert that has existed for eternity. Barely any surface-dwellers are even aware of their existence, though their magic, from the secretive and relatively small corner of the world they inhabit, rules all life. On a sort of related note, chronomantic squid can be found all over the world, provided you're attuned to time itself somehow. Princess Celestia and Princess Luna are of Atlantean heritage, from which all other equine races evolved, save sea ponies. No one knows where they came from. The Atlanteans were all alicorns. The gem Princess Celestia wore in her armor was a shard of a special sea pony artifact gifted to her long ago. It was given to us - Twilight and I - to assist Twilight in further developing her magical power. Magic widely used and first discovered by zebras is the only transformative magic known to exist. On a sort of related note, glyphs are really fucking hard to draw. Changelings eat magic, not love. There are emotion-related spells, but changelings aren't limited to those. They can survive in harsh environments, not unlike bugs. They also tend to be more territorial than invasive. Also, they're not exactly intelligent. They know how to replicate emotion or even language, for they are masters of deception by nature, but they feel less and act more on instinct. The only ponies not under the Sisters' jurisdiction are some pegasi, who live very, very, very far to the west of Equestria, or the crystal ponies, to the north... but they're not exactly ponies anymore. Princess Cadance's crown is an heirloom known now as the Crown of Winter, which played a monumental role in the creation of the frozen wasteland that still howls with bone-chilling wind even today between Equestria and the Crystal Empire, wherein her father perished. There are no alternate dimensions anyone knows of. That means the mirror to Canterlot High doesn't exist, just like several other canonical characters or things. The closest thing to another dimension anyone could go would be the past or the future. Due to the nature of time travel there, it's impossible to cause a paradox. Breezies are a thing. I don't remember what they did in the show, but then again, I have no idea what they do in my dreams, so I suppose it doesn't matter. The planet's called Earth. Its years are the same as Earth's. Nothing different there. Vampires, werewolves, and other creatures of the night are a thing. They stem all the way back to Princess Luna's betrayal. The dead walk in the Everfree Forest. Pegasus wings are much larger than they appear in the show. Gryphons and alicorns also have larger wings, but alicorns are much weaker flyers. I'm gonna stop here, since I've said plenty already and I've got other stuff to do. There's naturally more to everything, but I'm not going into details here. RE: The world of your waifu - Fiction - 03-24-2016 Full of colors, sometimes really beautiful. RE: The world of your waifu - Gentian - 03-26-2016 Ok, here are some things: According to Twi, the show isn't really accurate at all, It's more like fan fiction than an actual documentary or "footage" of her world. Some glaring ones: The princesses don't actually control the Sun or moon, that's just a poetic description of their powers and responsibilities. Discord was never released from his prison. Changelings and Tyrek don't exist. The Golden Oak Library still does. The Crystal Empire exists too, but not like in the show: When Sunset Shimmer went through the mirror, it took her there, not to another dimension. The events of the movies more or less took place, but on Equis, not Earth. Also, Sunset Shimmer not only redeemed herself with the princesses, but is an alicorn herself now. Oh yeah, the Tree of Harmony also never made any kind of magic box thing. There's more but, that's enough for now. Edit: Good lord, how could I forget? One of the biggest differences, is there are almost no sapient races other than Ponies. No Yaks, the occasional gryphon, but they're more bestial than intelligent, a handful of dragons, but hardly an entire kingdom. RE: The world of your waifu oh - Fiction - 03-28-2016 Unrelated, but why does this have "oh" at the end? Has it always been there? Did I just now notice? Wow, you're right. Hello, mandela effect. RE: The world of your waifu. - EquestrianPenguin - 03-28-2016 There aren't really a lot of differences between Spitfires Equestria and the one from the show, however some differences are: The Wonderbolts have a reserve team The Wonderbolts were once apart of the Equestrian Military many years ago Shining Armor and Cadence don't have a foal Tirek doesn't exist There has been a war between Changlings and the Equestria recently Soarin and Fleetfoot are married Rainbow Dash is a reserve Wonderbolts member |
