General Chatter
I don't feel like people need to own AR-15s but they can if they want, that's fine. Full auto guns have already been been in America if you own one that's highly illegal. I don't think we should ban any more guns, but we should have stricter background checks, it's actually fairly easy for a convicted felony or parolee to get a gun, really easy and that needs to stop. If you've ever been convicted of a violent crime or being investigated for one, if you're on the no fly list, you're being investigated for suspected terrorism or if you have a violent or unstable mental condition you shouldn't be allowed to buy a gun. Everyone else can, but those people are the ones that need to be held back.

There is an awful lot of political discussion going on here. I hate to be that guy, but I feel compelled to point out that the fastest way to fracture a community is by discussing politics, and religion. I'm not here for that stuff, and I don't think that I'm alone. I'm here to enjoy waifus, ponies, pony waifu's non-pony waifus, and to build some level of community with like-minded individuals. A lot of what's being said here, is going to upset some users, and it just seems to be asking for drama. Exactly the kind of drama that has such a stellar track-record of poisoning online environments. As small as ours is, is that something we really want to do? Especially when there are already so many other places to spout our opinions and fling poo at the opposition?

"So what?" you say.
"If you don't like it, don't read the thread." you say.

Ok, but this is the "general chatter" thread, not the /pol/ thread. When it gets bumped, I don't know if there's something worth reading, or if it's going to be more of reddit leaking in. If you want to discuss political matters, may I ask that those interested either go to relevant sites, or make a containment thread for them, and keep it confined there so the rest of us can avoid it more easily?

And in other news, watching little brother play Goat Simulator. It's pretty ridiculous. What's it about? Just, getting points for doing random shit and fucking things up?

That's why I stay out of political stuff here. Seems to get pretty heated here when the topic comes up.

I get where you're coming from; I do. But how strong / close IS a community if all it takes is a disagreement on one front to tear them apart?

It's been pretty obvious so I'm not calling anyone out here: I regularly and consistently disagree with Mercy where firearms are concerned. Does that mean I dislike the guy or wouldn't talk to him about other things? Not at all. I can disagree with someone on one point and still get along with them on others.

Just because the members of this community share a common bond doesn't mean they're going to agree on everything, and - while this isn't what the site was necessarily intended for - I think people (potential friends in particular) should be able to have these discussions. Otherwise, it comes off as though you're just pretending to get along.

Don't talk about A, B, or C, and everything's hunky dory? That's an illusion. I can dislike someone's opinion or stance on an issue and still like and / or communicate with them. I've had several heated discussions with my closest friends; that's kind of how we got to be as close as we are. Or part of it.

The reason we're discussing politics is because of the election.

And it feels great to be alive in such a time. A woman's getting a presidential nomination, the next president will probably (hopefully) be assassinated, and the UK's holding a vote on rather or not to leave the EU.

I feel like humanity's coming apart even further in this time.

That amuses me, for whatever reason.

Humanity drifts apart and back together throughout all of history, we'll be fine.

I wouldn't say that we're discussing politics only because o the election, we discussed Paris previously before the section really heated up, and life changing events happen all the time.

I wasn't trying to suggest that you not discuss it, or that politics be made verbotten, only that it be done in a place where those who wished to avoid it could do so. Since this seems to be the thread everyone wants to use though, I guess that's that.

I propose an alternative: Politics and other hot-button issues.
