An episode a day

S1E16 Sonic Rainboom. Also known as "Rarity became an alicorn before it was cool".

I didn't know Larsen did this episode, maybe he really was the best writer. This episode meant a lot to me as it was my first episode that I ever saw to the show, and it's how I fell for Rarity. Particularly, I loved her ever since she declared herself to be God Empress over all mortal lifeforms.

Though in all seriousness, I do think it's one of the best in the series. It's actually a good way of showing character flaws in a character, without making them look like a total asshole. In this case, it's about how Rari sometimes gets carried away for herself and loves when the spotlight is on her, and it's good to see she knows better now. But I also think this is a good note of how Rarity cares for her friends. Again granted she did get carried away, but she was the only one who recognized what Dash was going through, and was the one who made the push to go support her. And how she volunteered herself for the spell. To those who think she was absolutely horrible in this, I point to the beginning as a rebuttle. We all have flaws, and sometimes Rari just loves the spotlight a little. In my book, like I said one of the best in the series.

S1E17 The Stare Master

Truthfully, this wasn't one I particularly liked all that much. In particular, I don't like how Opal comes off as, because it really makes her look aggressive towards Rarity, and I don't feel that's quite right. In Suited for Success, she's not anywhere near as aggressive towards Rari. I feel like it makes Rari look like a bad owner in relation to Opal. And that fact that they kind of laugh it off at the end, I know it's not much, but truthfully I don't like it that much.

Of course it's a Fluttershy and CMC episode and all I can think about is Rari and Opal. But in terms of the Stare and all that, it was alright, I just don't like how it's become some super power at this point in the show.

S1E18 The Show Stoppers

Sweetie Belle really needs to stop taking things without her sister's permission. Anyway, this episode was alright I'd say, though I noticed something peculiar. There's that rumor going around that Carts Before the Ponies was a rejected S1 episode, and while I'm not sure if I buy that, but I do find it really odd that the CMC share the very same role switches that they do in that episode. Sweetie Bloom wanting the role associated with Apple Bloom, Apple Bloom wanting the role associate with Scootaloo, and Scootaloo wanting the role associated with Sweetie Belle. Seems a bit coincidental that they didn't switch up the roles any other way. On top of that, the way Twilight says "My Little Ponies" definitely felt forced in on this one.

S1E19 A Dog and Pony Show

This is a really good episode that's lesson I really feel bad for ignoring for some time. Truthfully, not that I avoided this one as I did others for some time, I didn't generally prefer watching this because of all the Spike shipping that continued to come from this. Even when Rari was just my favorite character that stuff made me feel deeply uncomfortable. But what I feel makes this episode important is the fact that it proves Rari isn't helpless at all. So it's something I should really be keeping closer to heart. She knows how to handle herself, and that's that.

S1E20 Green Isn't Your Color

Another one I realize I blocked out a lot because of a lot of Spike stuff, bluh. Lots of memories of how fun that was. Though at least it had Sith Lord Rari.

This was another good lesson in an episode, keep it simple. Something we can all understand, how to handle jealousy, because we can all get it. And I do like how it shows a bit more of Rari's relationship with other ponies. Though I must say, it does seem really rather peculiar how fame works in Equestria. The episode before has her described as being up and coming in the industry, yet she's not recognized in this one. I mean, I know continuity isn't the show's strongest suite, but things like this do seem a bit all over the place.

S1E21 Over a Barrel

I guess this isn't one I was ever crazy for. Just seemed like a reason to have an "old west" episode. I mean I didn't find it bad, just that nothing really stood out to me aside from Pinkie's "Gotta Share" song, noticing that Pinkie had a lot of random songs sprinkled throughout. Kinda found them sweet in a way. But like I said, this one was one I was really more indifferent towards.

S1E22 A Bird in Hoof

I liked this one quite a bit, if only because I felt it brought Celestia a little more "down to earth", or Equestria, I should say. That she's not just some princess who is always far away and unrelatable, she's a pony too just like any of them. And Twilight's antics in this one were definitely fun. It seems like the show doesn't do this anymore, bring Celestia down to Ponyville for no reason. Yeah she visited Twilight's castle once in a blue moon, but it just kinda goes back to her ignoring the place. Princess Celestia's role in the show definitely got a bit downgraded, it's disappointing.

S1E23 The Cutie Mark Chronicles

A classic episode I must say. Definitely another key one in the series, especially if your goal is to introduce the show to people, it's another one of those types of episodes. I do find it really wonderful that the Mane 6 were destined to be together, there is definitely something really rather sweet about that. Honestly I do believe that myself too, I think that's the truth with them. There's definitely a little bit that everyone can love in this episode. And as I recall, it was one of the ones that I pushed myself to watch when I first became exposed to the show.

S1E24 Owl's Well End's Well

One of the few, if not only, Spike episodes I've ever really enjoyed, if only for Owlicious, because I found him to be really cute. I don't know, people complain about it being "Spike abuse" or something, but I don't quite see how people say that. Not too much else I feel I have to say, except maybe his plan was a bit foolish. I mean, thinking he'd trick Twilight with ketchup, really?

S1E25 Party of One

This is probably one of my favorite non-Rarity episodes, as I feel I can relate quite a bit to Pinkie in this situation. I can also end up overworking myself and my thoughts, developing things that truthfully aren't there at all. It's something I think everyone might have an understanding in. Not only that, but I think it's definitely another one of those classic types of episodes.
