Poems for the Sweetest of Ponies
#11
The time ticks forward
I know that the moment is fast approaching
But this knowledge won't stop the sadness

In a moment meant for celebration
I feel a pang of melancholy
For my lover shall not be following me

I know she will wait patiently
For my triumphant return
And yet this does not soothe me

It is not fear of rejection that makes me feel so
It is not paranoia of her being untrue that concerns me
No, for I know she loves me and will fulfill her promises

But I feel for her feelings
That she feels I'm flippant
That she feels she's being left behind

So for her I say this
Candy, it is for you that I'm going
And it is for you I'll return

Sure as the sun sets in the west
None others can touch my heart
Nor a bachelor's lifestyle win me away from you

The Pacific may win my admiriation as beautiful
But it is not half as beautiful as you
And I plan to return to you soon

Very nice, and it hints at something major going on. Whatever it is, we wish the both of you the best.

The bigger you build the bonfire, the more darkness is revealed.

Every possession and every happiness is but lent by chance for an uncertain time, and may therefore be demanded back the next hour.

Ever had a weird idea and just ran with it? That's what's happening here. We've never taken a trip like this together, but apparently I want to.

The wind blows through her auburn hair
"Last rest stop, next 300 miles"
The radio echos from the mesas without a care
And the pink boulders sit on the roadside in piles

Her hind hooves resting atop the dashboard
Split by decades of use
For miles our journey'd creaked on in the ancient Ford
And so both of us now were looking for an excuse

Arid dust hangs above the faded Shell sign
Which set next to a boarded-up diner
In fact a whole row of buildings left behind
Hotel, general store, and an empty pool with a shredded liner

"CAT SCALES" read the dilapidated board
And the site of a Mack left for dead here in the Arizona sticks
Seemed to frighten our old Ford
As it's constant racket quieted and we pulled into the Phillips 66

"It's another Tequila Sunrise..."
The sound of the speakers reverberated from the discolored tiles
As we ate a dinner of French fries
And recaptured the morning's adventures with wide smiles

Inn and Suites, Saligman, 346 miles
The horizon opens up for us, for our dreams
As the miles roll on the odometer, our time together whiles
And we find ourselves where it always seems
We'd wanted to be

That's my favorite of yours so far. It feels really whimsical and comfortable at the same time.

I really like this one too. Some of the rhymes are quite unexpected, you managed to make the poem not only descriptive, but playfully so, and the images it brought to my mind - especially a pony sitting in a car's front seat like a human with her hooves on the dashboard (crossed, maybe?) - are vivid, and delightful.

One question, though; was this:

a typo? I can't decide.

"The Sticks" is a slang term for an unpopulated rural area, or at least, it is here in the Midwest. A Mack, as you may know, is a brand of large truck. So nope, not a typo, but maybe a little on the regional side.

I wasn't actually going to post this, but I was nudged to by someone else, so here it goes. It was just a simple little writing exercise. I hope it's not too awful.

Romantic,
For all the ways you show your love and care,
Artistic,
For all your designs that others wear,
Radiant,
For all your beauty that shines through,
Inspiration,
For the times I was lost that you gave a clue,
Thanks,
For making me know I’m not alone,
You
Hold more value than the most precious stone.

That was great! I actually really like the structure, it kinda adds to the meaning. Thank you for contributing!
