S5E26 Cutie Re-Mark Part 2
I can expand on my thoughts from Part 1 on this now. There were definitely too many unnecessary things going on. The constant changing timelines just seemed like dumb fanservice, when again they really should have just stuck with the Nightmare Moon timeline, the one of most importance. And rather than hopping around timelines, the focus should have still been on the Mane 6 since that doesn't really happen anymore. On to the next bit, Starlight and her being redeemed. Now I don't know if this is because of a certain someone who knows who they are, but out of everything I think I actually enjoyed this bit quite a bit more. The backstory with Sunburst still kind of seemed a bit sudden, but thinking a bit outside of what was given I feel like improves things. The song at the end in particular was very touching. So I'd say if anything the biggest fault was just the lack of Mane 5. I think that's a huge problem in the show. If it weren't for that, I'd probably have liked this a lot more, and it's certainly less offensive than Twilight's Kingdom or Canterlot Wedding.
And here I am at the end of Season 5. I feel like honestly, this was a really strong season, and I regret not watching it in its entirety earlier. Sure, it had some things I didn't like, but I felt the episodes that were strong were really strong, and I'd definitely rank it as the second best season, after Season 1. S1 still keeps it for me because of how it is with the Mane 6 and letters to Celestia, and I felt the weakest points of S5 were the Map, and as I said, this continued treatment of the Mane 5 that's still bothering me a bit, but it really only was with the finale at least. If it weren't for the Map, and how poorly that gimmick holds things back, I feel like this season definitely could have beat 1 in my book, especially since I enjoy several episodes in this season more than anything in 1. Canterlot Boutique, Rarity Investigates and Amending Fences are some of the best episodes ever made. All in all, this was a blast.

Anyway I'm glad that you really liked this season. It's my personal favorite.

S6E1 The Crystalling Part 1
Gosh. Crystal Empire episodes are just so weak and just absolutely forgettable. Why do they keep doing these? It also goes back to just another generic, forgettable, threat to the land. Like I just saw it and I'm still not quite sure what the conflict was. If anything positive, watching this again really brought to light that Starlight actually has developed quite a bit over the coarse of the show. So I feel this contributes positively for her. As for everything else, not so much. I think this episode needed to be more like S7's premier. They should have just given one episode to Starlight and one to Flurry and dropped this whole lousy forced conflict threatening the land.

Agreed. Too many existential threats, how the heck has Equestria survived this long?

It feels like this is an every day experience. I think what worked is having a breather? For example, Cutie Map wasn't about all of the world being in danger, that worked then. Especially watching these in order, going immediately from endangering the timelines to a spooky winter danger wasn't... great. You could have pulled certain things from the episodes and it would have worked better on their own.
Oh and I should have added to my thoughts, I dislike Flurry, but not that much, only because I dislike this whole "overpowered baby" bit, i think it's dumb. Like, magic should have just been something they had to grow into being able to do, like walking. Hence why, say, Sweetie Belle wasn't able to for the longest time.

I would have to agree with you in that. I'm sure it's no shocker but I found that other than what starlight was doing this episode is just so bland and forgetable.

I would also have to say i dislike her quite a bit. Not just for the reasons you said, but my God is she forced, and just like the rest of the chrystal empire, serves no real constructive porpose in the show.

S6E2 The Crystalling Part 2
I never thought I would find a video to perfectly capture my experience with this episode. It just felt like a whole lot of nothing but a way to kill time. The Crystal Empire was really just a mistake and nothing good has really come out of it. Princess Celestia and Luna really have no way to deal with bad weather? Really?

S6E3 The Gift of the Maud Pie
I never saw this one until now. I thought this was an incredibly sweet episode, quite possibly my favorite of S6. (I've seen rougly half of the season at this point.) I think this is what map episodes should have been more like, sans the map. It felt like a sweet, natural episode. And initially I felt like Rarity didn't do much for the episode, but upon second thought I realized she played the very important role of the straight man (or mare I should say) and I don't think the episode would have flown well without it. And it's nice to see Rari already thinking about gifting ponies things. Saying a year is too soon to plan a gift, how completely like her.

S6E4 On Your Marks
After the CMC got their cutie marks, I think there was a very good episode on Apple Bloom in particular and her character, showing her inner feelings and such. I also thought the song itself was rather good. I definitely should also make a point of saying I think any sort of shipping with Tender Taps is ludicrous, as there really wasn't anything to even point such a thing like that in the episode. Shippers can be way too crazy sometimes. It's like two characters can glance at each other one way and things get dialed to 11.

S6E5 Gauntlet of Fire
Eh. What can I say, I've never been attached to Spike episodes. I also don't care a whole lot for dragon lore either, I'm not the most interested in them, and the whole episode just felt very distant from Equestria for me. I mean Rari and Twi didn't do anything except sort of watch from rocks, and kind of just stood there when either of them could have stopped Garble completely on their own. It was a bit silly. I must say though, Rari had some absolutely adorable moments. And I love that helmet with the bow! All in all though, just a forgettable episode anyway.
