Evocative, Kaltes. Brings to mind images of gray skies, dry leaves, chill, and tenderness.

The bigger you build the bonfire, the more darkness is revealed.

Every possession and every happiness is but lent by chance for an uncertain time, and may therefore be demanded back the next hour.

"Esdeath?" I asked curiously, the door creaking shut to snap up the last bits of light let in from the outside world. Wind whistling in the dying hours of daylight, the warmth of the home greeted me with utmost familiarity.

"Must be out," I thought to myself, probably hunting...or torturing. Probably both. I chuckled to myself at that one, making my way deeper into the home quietly. The darkness disturbed by only a few dim lights here and there, but I felt no incentive to brighten the room further as I found serenity in the shadows. Breathing out in a sense of peacefulness I leisurely sat down in a chair, the leather groaning slightly as it adjusted to me, my fingers digging into the squishy armrests.

The silence was comfortable. In contrast to most I enjoyed it, the dim lights casting abstract shadows on the walls and ceiling, the sound of my breathing and the clicking of my blinking eyelids.

So absorbed was I in my thoughts I was startled when a pair of strong yet definitely feminine arms draped themselves over my shoulders and locked around my chest. I gasped and would've hopped out of seat were it not for the arms holding me in place, the sultry chuckle of a familiar voice reached my ears, locks of blue hair spilling over the leather as she leaned down.

"You really ought to be more observant," Esdeath purred in my ear, giving me an affectionate squeeze.

"I am observant," I playfully retorted, though my heart still raced. Was it from the surprise or because of Esdeath? "I was just thinking is all."

"Hmm," she trailed a finger along my jaw and I all but prayed she wouldn't notice the redness that was surely lighting up my cheeks and the heat that was nipping the tips of my ears. That was one thing about Esdeath, she was much more...hands on. Always going in for a hug, a caress, a nuzzle, or holding my hand. Physical contact was a must for her, not that I truly objected but sometimes it was a tad shocking. Receiving all that attention.

"You're always thinking," she stated. It was true really. There almost wasn't a moment where I wasn't locked in thought. "I'm going to sit with you," Esdeath said, or rather declared. There would be no arguing. But again, that implied I would object. She was very direct.

Her white uniform gave the impression of an angel detaching from the deep shadows, long blue hair shifting and flowing with each graceful step. Casually removing her hat and loftily tossing it on the table she completed her quick journey to the front of where I sat, looking down at me sweetly. From my vantage point it made her look even taller, her long, well muscled legs further accentuated by the thigh length high heeled boots she wore.

"There's really nowhere for you-"

"Yes there is," she cut me off in a honeyed toned before gently planting herself in my lap. It was quite a thing, being this close to her. It was amazing how sweet and caring she could be, an absolute one eighty to what she'd likely been doing before she returned. Slowly I brought my arms up to enclose around her hips and judging by the smile on her face she approved of my actions immensely. A clock ticked endlessly from some unseen area of the living room. A hand stroked my hair tenderly and she continued to meet my eyes with her piercing, icy blue ones.

What was with me and the color blue?

She snapped her fingers close to my left ear to draw me back into the moment, giggling slightly as I was undoubtedly was blushing like a buffoon again. Esdeath pulled me close, pressing me against her soft chest. Being this close made her lips look all the softer and more tempting. Returning her embrace and resting my head against her chest I could tell she was beaming happily at this point even if I couldn't see her face. Contrary to popular belief, her skin wasn't freezing cold, despite her power. It was warm and supple, and within her chest beat a human heart.

She sighed happily. Her grip not allowing me to pull away.

"You're cute, especially when you squirm," she purred, running a finger along the length of my spine to make me shiver.

"I'm surprised you didn't put a collar on me when you first came to me those few months ago," I replied, feeling proud to have regained some of my wits. I'll admit she could catch me off guard far easier than most and have me blushing like a shy schoolboy.

Esdeath allowed me to pull back somewhat, her hands moving to my face, softly caressing them to slowly travel towards my exposed neck whilst she thought.

"Hm, I'd thought about it. You would look good in one." There was that matter of fact tone once more. To my credit I didn't blush but I'd be lying if I said her candidness didn't my eyes bulge, the sensation of fingers softly running across the sides of my neck flustered me further.

Esdeath laughed, snuggling herself closer and resuming her strong but very caring embrace. Bashfulness ebbing away I hugged her back, resting my chin atop her right shoulder, the scent of her beautiful hair further lulling me into peace.

It's the moments like this where it fully hits me as to just how fortunate I really am.

I awoke in the safe familiarity of my bed, darkness cloaking the room comfortably as the fan above turned to stir the cool air endlessly. The blades spinning round and round in a never ending blur. My eyes flitted to the left of me, to the beautiful purple haired mare sleeping next to me, my arm softly grazing against her chest, my skin tingling from the touch of her fur. A foreleg draped affectionately over my chest.

I blinked as realized she wasn't the only one, just below her slender leg was a very human arm. Feminine, but well toned through years combat and training. My eyes slowly traveled up the length of the appendage and towards the woman who'd draped it over me. Esdeath slept soundly too, if not more so, a contented, small smile on her lips. Her long blue hair just slightly messy from sleep, her loose shirt slipping off her shoulder freely.

It was unusual for me to sleep in the center of the bed, but frankly they'd insisted on it and effectively sandwiched me between them. Not that it was an unpleasant experience, mind you. There was nothing quite like having two beautiful women who you deeply cared for wanting to cuddle you like no tomorrow. Esdeath in particular proving to be an enthusiastic cuddler.

But still, I was awake now, rubbing sleep from my eyes I opted to decide it was time to start the day. Gently I began to slowly inch upward as I didn't want to disturb them.

In a sudden and surprising turn, both Nightmare and Esdeath's limbs tensed and effortlessly pulled me back down into the plush pillows, earning a grunt from me.

"Five more minutes," Nightmare mumbled, shifting until her lovely face nuzzled into my cheek. Esdeath sighed in happy agreement, slipping a leg over my own beneath the blanket and snuggling up closer, smiling wider as she inhaled my sent deeply before beginning to drift off once more.

Not quite what I had in mind, but certainly not a bad start either.

I watched Esdeath as she quietly, and most importantly, happily wrote something in her journal. She wrote in it a lot these days. Her right leg neatly crossed over the left. Instead of staring, I thought it was high time I do something, silently I stood up, my heart thumping quicker in my chest.

Even faster when her eyes locked onto me like an eagle would from the sky. Her head titled quizzically and a smile graced her beautiful face. I only registered that I was moving towards her several seconds after I'd initially began moving in the first place. Standing before her I inched my knees to the carpeted floor, her blue hair seemed to glow in the light. Carefully I lifted myself closer to her, delicately lacing my fingers through hers, I noted her cheeks became a shade of crimson as our faces all but touched. I'd never been this forward with Esdeath, but now truly felt like the most appropriate time to do so. I should've done it a long time ago anyway.

I pressed my lips to hers tenderly, I was nearly startled by just how wonderfully soft they were. My heart may have very well done a jovial back flip when I heard Esdeath give a muffled but equally pleasant sigh and she promptly pulled me closer with her strong arms.

In her grasp now, we both reluctantly pulled away for air. My veins had the feeling of white lightning coursing through them as though something was preparing to jettison me skyward. Her lips glistened temptingly with a quick swipe of a tongue.

Smiling wide, she asked, "What brought that on?"

"We should have done that months before, Esdeath," my lips pulling into a grin I honestly don't think I could have concealed even if I had tried.

"Hm, how long have we known each other?"

"More than half the year I'd say."

She sat that there for a moment in what appeared to be contemplation until a decidedly pleased gleam flickered in her eyes. Gripping my chin she pulled me in for heated kiss, holding me tighter as we savored each other's sweet kiss.

Esdeath pulled back to flash me a mischievous smile.

"We'd better start making up for lost time, my love."

I barely even had time to beam like a happy idiot before she'd locked her lips with mine again.

Putting this in spoiler because while not straying into full NSFW, it is (in my opinion at least) very sensual and could safely be labelled as PG-13. I hope it is satisfactory either way.

I yelped when Esdeath suddenly hauled me up from where I sat, smiling like she had just gotten the best idea in the world. Instinctively I wrapped my arms across her shoulders though logically I knew she wouldn't drop me as she strode into the bedroom, I suddenly felt a bit bashful considering she was carrying me bridal style, but shyness was quickly swept away by the rush of love and endearment as she promptly began cuddling up against me like no tomorrow once we were on the bed.

"E-Esdeath," I squirmed, feeling her lock her arms tighter around me and drape a leg over mine. Her chin nestled securely atop my head it wasn't hard for me to envision the grin she must have had right now.

"You're cute when you struggle," she giggled affectionately, our bodies resting comfortably on the bed easing me into a sense of calm even faster. "I think you need to be cuddled." That was a statement.

"Um-"

"I'm not letting you go."

I breathed out softly, allowing my fingers to stroke the length of her right arm.

Esdeath was correct, I really did need to be cuddled.

"Room for one more?"

Oh boy.

Nightmare all but sauntered over, lifting herself onto the bed with her hooves and easing herself down in front of me. My fingers quickly finding their way to her long, gorgeous mane. One elegant black hoof caressed my jawline, half lidded blue eyes looking at me softly.

We basked in comfortable silence, their collective presences filling me with such joy I could feel it pulsing through my veins sweetly. The haze over my mind replaced with peace.

I wasn't sure if it was their intention but my eyelids gradually started to feel heavier and heavier. My body loftily floating into the desire for sleep. I felt Esdeath sigh contentedly as Nightmare simultaneously eased her head down on the pillow, her eyes never leaving me, my hand gently clutching onto her purple and white mane.

They were right. I needed this.

They'd always be here when I needed them. I knew they'd be there when I woke up too.

Winter Night
----

*Originally written December 21st, 2014*

It was cold out, very, very cold. My breath coming out in great puffs, my gloved hands adjusting the hat on my head, I always hated wearing winter hats but since I was going to be outside for a bit I figured I didn't have much alternative. The field was quiet, save for the gentle winter breeze, a few trees dotted the landscape here and there; absent of leaves but still rather scenic despite that.

I saw her sitting in the grass, her head angled upwards to the sky. Her beautiful purple and white streaked mane swaying gently with every little gust of wind. Her horn glinting subtly in the light of the moon she had risen. She wore a thick but soft black cloak that covered her body, like her mane and tail, it too sparkled as though there were hundreds of tiny stars within the fabric.

"Do you intend to just stand there, or are you going to sit down?" She asked, fixing me with a glance over her shoulder. Cat like sapphire eyes framed by long lashes piercing the darkness to look at me.

"Sorry, Nightmare Rarity," I stifled a laugh and finally walked over to her and sat down, being sure not to sit on her cloak.

"Thank you for joining me this night," she began, looking over at me.

"How could I possibly resist?" I replied, my eyes to the sky. Hundreds upon hundreds of stars twinkled against a black sky, a perfect crescent moon casting its white light onto the ground.

"I still find it amazing that you can create all this," I said, my hands flat on the ground to support myself and found my eyes trying to drink in as much detail as they could. My whole life I'd rarely seen the night sky in its true entirety. I heard Nightmare give a low chuckle, the grass rustling as she shifted to a more upright posture.

"Come here," she spoke again, jarring me out of my wonderment as I saw her lift her right foreleg, moving her cloak aside in an inviting manner. "Well, come on now. Don't want my subject freezing in the cold now do I?" She teased. Cautiously I slid over to her, my shoulder briefly bumping her own before she allowed the cloak to drape over me. I almost gasped at how unnaturally (but comfortably) warm it was. There had to be some sort of magical enhancement on it, not that I was complaining as I drew it closer to myself.

"Much better," she said in a rather pleasant tone. I breathed out contentedly as my body quickly warmed under the soft cloak.

"You might want to look up," she said slyly, her eyes glinting with some unspoken delight. It occurred to me that I was staring so I did as she instructed and looked up. My breath occasionally visible in small white puffs.

"Ummm...," I briefly glanced at her, but she placed a hoof gently on my cheek and made me look skyward once more. "What exactly am I supposed to be looking for?"

"You'll see," she laughed.

It was silent for a few moments once more...when I saw them. Brilliant streaks of white and blue light shot across the black sky. Dozens of them. There for a moment, gone the next. My mouth was agape as they continued to fly overhead, how close they all seemed, yet so far away. The last of them, the biggest and brightest of them, blue in coloration; soared by. It disappeared, seeming to sink beyond our vision as it completed its arching journey.

I didn't how long I sat in amazed silence, I barely even registered Nightmare Rarity gently nudging me back into the present. I looked her straight in the eye, a pleased grin on her face.

"You have no idea how long I've been waiting to do that."

"Thank you...," I trailed off, not even truly sure how to properly thank her for this beautiful gift. She tenderly placed a hoof over my lips to silence me.

"The happiness in your eyes is thanks enough."

My fingers ran their way through the Nightmare's soft mane with each stroke, my back pushing deeper into the soft leather cushion of the couch we occupied. The living room was dark save for the blue Christmas lights that had been so neatly coiled around the tree itself. The air carried the aroma of sweet cinnamon.

"You've worked hard."

"Yeah, a little too hard, I think."

"Well, we're going to properly spoil you," Nightmare replied, her breath tickled my ear before she shifted to plant a soft kiss on my jawline. Her eyes moved towards the tree, satisfied with her handiwork in regards to the lights themselves. The heavenly blue illumination complimented her black fur quite nicely, giving me the impression that she was emerging from the light itself and into my lap.

An arm slid its way across my chest, a giggle drew my attention to Esdeath. Her other arm was raised over both our heads, her fingers neatly dangling what was unmistakably a mistletoe.

"Cornered," Nightmare chuckled at my situation. Being cornered by them certainly wasn't an unpleasant situation. Nightmare struck first whilst I thought, her lips capturing mine. Instinctively a hand moved to cup her cheek, I'd found over the years that snouts were ideal for such things. It was a brief kiss, but one that left my lips tingling and my heart skipped a beat. She smiled slyly at me, sharp teeth glinting in the light. Lifting my chin upwards towards Esdeath, locks of blue hair draping over my shoulders as she all but pounced on me. That was another thing about them, Esdeath's kisses were generally more...heated to say the least. Though trying to compare the two was fairly hard when one currently had a bit of someone else's tongue in their mouth, not that I minded.

When she finally pulled away I slowly pulled my eyes back to Nightmare, who still wore that pleased grin, the kind that said "Just as we planned."

"...You planned this didn't you?"

Esdeath sat herself down to my right comfortably, taking my hand into hers and giving a soft squeeze. "She said we were going to spoil you did she not?" Esdeath chuckled, pressing herself closer.

"Despite your initial hesitations, Esdeath and I get along quite well," Nightmare Rarity stated, running a hoof down my leg. "What matters to me is that your happy."

The three of us relaxed in each other's grasp, holding the both them close to me felt so perfect. The sense of completion rested deeply in my heart, rooted there like an ancient tree that could never be torn away. Esdeath beamed at me, easing my head onto her chest, the sound of her heart filling my head as Nightmare gave me feather kisses along my cheek and jaw.

When I'm with them it all went away. Stress. Frustration. The petty, trivial world and all its nonsense.

They were what truly matter. I never forgot that even for a moment. They are my heart and soul.

There were no vocal proclamations of love. We all knew without having to say a word. A glowing bond formed in the ecstasy of love and connection in the deepest and most profound way such a thing could be forged. It is the most beautiful and stunningly fulfilling connection we could ever hope to have.

I smiled down at Nightmare as she rested her head in my lap. My fingers working dutifully behind her pointy ears and through her long mane, part of which was draped over the length of my legs. The black gossamer curtains largely concealed if there were any prying eyes. They shone with millions of tiny gleams and twinkles, and swirling galaxies danced in them. The blankets crinkled slightly from where she and I sat. Like little rows of rocks jutting up from a purple sea.

My fingers ran through a waterfall of silky purple hair that almost seemed to meld into the color of the bed itself.

Nightmare Rarity's sapphire eyes parted leisurely, framed by the enchanting lashes that made them all the more striking.

She fixed me with a half lidded stare that was unreadable for a few moments before suddenly lunging at my lips to snatch them passionately in her own. My hands gently clenched around locks of her mane and my arms pulled her upper frame closer to mine, soft black fur sending the oh so familiar but equally wonderful tingles down my arms.

With her on top of me I comfortably fell back onto the plush pillows.

Nightmare looked down on me now, that all embracing glow in her eyes that I had so ecstatically looked into for nearly four years now. It was an embrace of not just my physical form, but my very soul. Just as I eternally embraced hers.

No matter how many times I looked into them, it was always fulfilling. Joyous to comprehend. It would never end.

She is my Nightmare, my Queen. Always.
