Poems for the Sweetest of Ponies
Ah, how I love summer
The warm embrace of God’s gift
Of splendid life, so worth celebrating

I love the smell of barbecue
The sweet kiss of the scent as I drive by
Windows down, music blasting

But what I love most of all
A blanket of stars pulled over our patio
Our very own planetarium

Walks in the park
Watching nature unfold itself
As dusk sets in

A bowl full of sundae
Beneath the dull neon glow
Of city lights

Of the unexpected kiss
A surreal moment of genuine surrender
In a world so devoid of weakness

Oh, to see the sun rise
With beauty in my arms, by my side
And lovers words in my ear

How do you heal
When my love feels unreal

How can you reassure
Our love when there is no cure

Why do you continue to try
Even when you know that I lie

How have you developed this love
To always rise above

I’ve long said it’s you I treasure
But it’s not only for the pleasure

For your spirit I admire
Of perseverance you never tire

Can you teach me how you do
So that I can love you in that way, too

Or is it beauty internal
That aids you in moments so infernal

Is it simply who you are
That makes your forgiveness stretch so far

Tell me lover, I must know
For I must repay you, I promised you so

But that is love’s eternal question
I cannot repay your affection

For it was freely given to me
It comes with no strings, no fee

I guess that is the greatest gift
To take one’s heart and to lift

Above all the trauma and strife
Above all the dirtiness of life

And even though by the one you love you’ve been hurt
Every time you fish our fractured love from the dirt

And with astounding selflessness, you repair
Our broken love, so that I need not despair

I know that I have struggled and done you wrong
I know that you need more than a simple song

Or another line about how you light up my days
No, I must learn to love and cherish you in new ways

So today, down the everlasting journey I start
With a vow that I never again will hurt your heart

And with a smile of contentedness and glee
I can promise a better future, for you and me

I love you so much that you need never fear
For wherever you go, I will follow, my dear

So today, a memorial and a start anew
For a relationship rebuilt and a love so true

You are the light of my life
You are my peace in strife
Your nourishing love quenched my thirst
My heart so overjoyed that it may burst
You pierced my solitude as a knife
You found your way to become my wife

Though trials and tribulations we must endure
You know that my intentions, as yours, are pure
We must listen for direction
And be wise in selection
Knowledge from above procure
And of our love, then, we can be sure

I look into your eyes of crystal and azure
And in love’s splendors I take a tour
I seek to be the ultimate protection
I seek to be in the loving section
Your affection brings such allure
For your affection is to savour

So let us see no end
Let no other sight our hearts bend
Into a midnight affair
So that forever we may share
A love that can send
Long broken hearts to mend

The crimson of a rose
And the violet of moonlight
It is this I do suppose
That you are in my sight

Lovely, pleasant
Kind and gentle on my mind

Golden fields of Autumn
Pure blankets of white snow
Where your beauty comes from
Only the highest will know

Inspired, precious
Greatest treasure that I will find

Clear reflection of a stream
Deepest highland green
The smile that before me beams
The most lovely I have seen

Mysterious, rare
You race through my mind

Crystal glint of the mountain
Bronze vistas of the desert
Beauty springs forth as a fountain
And renders me inert

Gentle, understanding
A true love that binds

The clock ticks past another hour
Another night slowly burns past
And though upon arrival my countenance was sour
I know I soon will be in your embrace, at last

Once again I am exhausted
But I must put the long day behind me
While the dew on my windowsill has frosted
I know where my warm comfort will be

For it is only by your side
That I ever wish to stay
Through midnight’s long ride
Together we will lay

As the hazards of the world appear
To loom in my face
I know I need not fear
In this peaceful place

While the night may be long
And my spirit weary
You will whisper a loving song
To make my soul less dreary

How could I survive a day
Without your gentle touch?
I do not see a way
My dear, you mean so much

Trees dance in the wind
Gala dresses of lurid red
And bright harvest gold
Zip up your vest
And join the parade
The procession of merrymakers
In the nippy breeze

A beauty stands out
In the midst of it all
Her flowing brown mane sends a message
You receive it with a smile
Rendezvous in the clean autumn air
Fleece blanket over painted leaves
Cornucopia spread out before you

But one treat is not to eat
Nay, she carries herself with grace
But you know all the same
That she sees the connection
So on a harvest moon afternoon
We will laze about
Deep in lovely conversation

As the band strikes up another tune
You can wonder why you’re alive
Or you can wander ‘neath the sterling moon
‘Till four in the morning, perhaps five

I consign myself to the midnight walk
To calm my fraying nerves
Until I can hear an angel talk
And gaze upon her heavenly curves

What is this; not a divine messenger I see
But a mortal mare, beautiful and bold
I fear that when I speak my name, when she sees me
Her demeanor will grow suddenly cold

But she has a heart of pure platinum
And she gazes past my mask
Her inner beauty strikes me deaf and dumb
Her kindness was too much for me to ask

She gave of her time and self freely
Such a rare trait in a cold world
Our time would be eternal, ideally
Our love affair forever to unfurl

However, this is all speculation
Metaphorical, if you will
Because to even risk an altercation
Of the heart would be a bitter pill

But would it be better to chance
To swallow that vile elixir
Just to receive one dance
Just a moment of bliss with her

It is that which I ponder
On nights where starlights gleam
Shall I rendezvous with her yonder
In the paradise of my dreams

Or should I forever be a wallflower
Protect my fragile ego
How high could love tower
How far could we go

That is the question
Of the hesitant bachelor
But we all know the suggestion
Is to go forth and ask her

It is for that bravery that I am most thankful tonight

Radiance and kindness
A conquering duo
How to accept
A lover’s embrace
Unearned yet welcomed

Hooves reach out
Take my hands
Again I’m lost
In a wonderland
How delightfully sweet

How to describe
Feelings so deep
Head above water
Floating in emotion
Sea of tranquility

Thousands of words
All in vain
Words couldn’t contain
An endless affection
Everlasting, eternal love

Clock of life
Ticking slowly away
What is time
Love defeats all
Time is naught

Now I see
We must be
Destined as lovers
Prescribed from above
We fit perfectly

Take my hands
Hooves in palms
Hearts near together
Beat as one
Our future beckons

Twilight stars sparkle in our eyes
Young love and sweet surprise

Snuggled together to keep warm
Hearts forged together to weather any storm

Sweet words rest upon sweet lips
A soft mane runs through my fingertips

A night together, the ultimate consolation
Two souls engulfed in a lovers conflagration

All worldly worries left behind
Squeezed out of existence by passion’s bind

Beyond the world of sin and violence
Love requited in a midnight silence

Fulfillment of dreams long dreamt
Fulfillment of a lifetime well spent

Upon this scene our hearts do lay
Until the break of a fresh new day

Come nightfall, our ritual begins anew
Until dawn bids it adieu

I choose to spend the day dreaming of you
For it is rare to find love, so devoted and true

What to say
On this thanksgiving day
On a night of such reflection
I ponder our affection
I search for a new way
Under skies charcoal grey

A star I see in the night sky
Lighting the bleakness as it streaks by
Perhaps the answers I have sought
Were all in vain, all for naught
But still I think I will diligently try
To find a combination of words to let your soul fly

Perhaps it is in the silent hours
When you let loose your inner powers
When I see an authentic Candy
It is then I find myself most dandy
So perhaps during those fleeting hours
I have the best chance at constructing lyrical towers

Or maybe it’s when we go for a date
On summer nights when we stay out late
When we convince ourselves that we’re still young
When we most feel life’s spring is still sprung
Maybe then it’s best to relate
A love that could only be constructed of fate

But no, it is in the everyday grind
That my soul wants most to unwind
In the time that seems meaningless and dour
And when my countenance sometimes seems sour
That is when I best find
The beauty for which I have pined

And oh what wonder, what glee
That you could present yourself to me
More beautiful with each passing minute
Every day with more of your beauty in it
Oh, how my soul feels so free
And how our love fits us to a tee
