Dungeons and Dragons and Ponies!
#1
Hello all!

I've been talking with EquestrianPenguin and Spitfire lately, and Spitfire has expressed some interest in maybe playing a game of Dungeons and Dragons through Skype's text chat...but only if some other people or ponies join in!

So if you like roleplaying games, or are interested in trying one out, and would like to join in on one, just let me know, and hopefully we can get something together!

So people know, I prefer older editions of D&D, or their retroclones (a term, for those who don't know, for systems that emulate the mechanics or feel of older editions of D&D, often with unique innovations of their own). Therefore, I'm hoping to use the ruleset called Labyrinth Lord to run the game. Any interested parties can find the rules as a free download here:

Maybe, but I've never played before and I'd suck.

How long are the rules?

You wouldn't suck. Everyone's got to start somewhere, right? As long as you get into the spirit of the game and have fun, that's what matters. It's one of the wonderful things about RPGs. There are no winners and losers; just fantastic adventures to be had!

The Labyrinth Lord rulebook is 140 pages, but you don't need to know very much of the rules; as the referee, I'd handle most of the complicated stuff. The most you'd need to know about is making a character, and that's a process I'm happy to guide anyone who wants to join through should they so desire. Smile

So, in short, don't stress out Fiction! If you'd like to join, we'd love to have you!

Maybe, but only if it took place on Mars.

Just kidding, but I still might join.

I'd be interested in possibly giving it a try, I haven't played in a *long* time.

I've been thinking...

Since some of the trepidation regarding joining up seems to be about getting into the rules. That's gotten me thinking...

Instead of Labyrinth Lord, maybe people would prefer to play one of my favorite adaptations of Dungeons and Dragons? It's called Searchers of the Unknown, and the rules fit on a single page! Nothing complicated to master, but there's a surprising amount of depth to the simplicity I've found. I'll provide a link below. Do please let me know if you'd prefer Searchers of the Unknown or Labyrinth Lord!
