Pardon me for asking, but what is a quote war?

You see someone's post that you dislike or disagree with (on a forum or the like) and respond after quoting part of their post. Then, they respond in kind, and the two of you (and possibly other participants) back-and-forth at length. In my experience, they are just shy of overtly disrespectful and go on far longer than they had ought to.
