Why should I be punished for working hard for what I have?First, I need you to explain something to me that I have always been perplexed by. Why are the people that have MORE seemingly less willing to part with any of it than people who have LESS? I consider it a comparatively greater act of generosity to give away something you have when you've less to give, overall. It's the most fortunate that seem to cling the hardest to material things.
And where, exactly, did I threaten to take anything away from you? I never said I was entitled to anything that you had. I was never even arguing in favor of communism; never so much as used the damn word. I do, however, feel that someone who's in a position to help someone less fortunate than themselves had ought to fucking do it. Had ought to want to do it. Because it strikes me as, Idunno, the right thing to do. There are some people that don't even have enough for themselves, and then there are people that have enough for a LOT of someones.
Capitalism does not breed this attitude. Not unless you've been in a position where you had to do without.
If enough of the "haves" take the stance of "mine mine mine," it only ensures that the "have nots" will remain right where they are in this bullshit economic hierarchy. And it is bullshit; too many of us measure the value of a human being by their bank account. I'm sure there are people who worked every bit as hard as you and still ended up getting screwed over in one way or another. Maybe they helped put a few more bills in the pockets of someone who already had more than they could even spend, but that didn't necessarily benefit them in the end. Economical hardship isn't something you can inoculate yourself against simply by working hard.
