Poems for the Sweetest of Ponies

Ever had a weird idea and just ran with it? That's what's happening here. We've never taken a trip like this together, but apparently I want to.

The wind blows through her auburn hair
"Last rest stop, next 300 miles"
The radio echos from the mesas without a care
And the pink boulders sit on the roadside in piles

Her hind hooves resting atop the dashboard
Split by decades of use
For miles our journey'd creaked on in the ancient Ford
And so both of us now were looking for an excuse

Arid dust hangs above the faded Shell sign
Which set next to a boarded-up diner
In fact a whole row of buildings left behind
Hotel, general store, and an empty pool with a shredded liner

"CAT SCALES" read the dilapidated board
And the site of a Mack left for dead here in the Arizona sticks
Seemed to frighten our old Ford
As it's constant racket quieted and we pulled into the Phillips 66

"It's another Tequila Sunrise..."
The sound of the speakers reverberated from the discolored tiles
As we ate a dinner of French fries
And recaptured the morning's adventures with wide smiles

Inn and Suites, Saligman, 346 miles
The horizon opens up for us, for our dreams
As the miles roll on the odometer, our time together whiles
And we find ourselves where it always seems
We'd wanted to be

I really like this one too. Some of the rhymes are quite unexpected, you managed to make the poem not only descriptive, but playfully so, and the images it brought to my mind - especially a pony sitting in a car's front seat like a human with her hooves on the dashboard (crossed, maybe?) - are vivid, and delightful.

One question, though; was this:

And the site of a Mack left for dead here in the Arizona sticks

a typo? I can't decide.

"The Sticks" is a slang term for an unpopulated rural area, or at least, it is here in the Midwest. A Mack, as you may know, is a brand of large truck. So nope, not a typo, but maybe a little on the regional side.
