S5E26 Cutie Re-Mark Part 2
I can expand on my thoughts from Part 1 on this now. There were definitely too many unnecessary things going on. The constant changing timelines just seemed like dumb fanservice, when again they really should have just stuck with the Nightmare Moon timeline, the one of most importance. And rather than hopping around timelines, the focus should have still been on the Mane 6 since that doesn't really happen anymore. On to the next bit, Starlight and her being redeemed. Now I don't know if this is because of a certain someone who knows who they are, but out of everything I think I actually enjoyed this bit quite a bit more. The backstory with Sunburst still kind of seemed a bit sudden, but thinking a bit outside of what was given I feel like improves things. The song at the end in particular was very touching. So I'd say if anything the biggest fault was just the lack of Mane 5. I think that's a huge problem in the show. If it weren't for that, I'd probably have liked this a lot more, and it's certainly less offensive than Twilight's Kingdom or Canterlot Wedding.
And here I am at the end of Season 5. I feel like honestly, this was a really strong season, and I regret not watching it in its entirety earlier. Sure, it had some things I didn't like, but I felt the episodes that were strong were really strong, and I'd definitely rank it as the second best season, after Season 1. S1 still keeps it for me because of how it is with the Mane 6 and letters to Celestia, and I felt the weakest points of S5 were the Map, and as I said, this continued treatment of the Mane 5 that's still bothering me a bit, but it really only was with the finale at least. If it weren't for the Map, and how poorly that gimmick holds things back, I feel like this season definitely could have beat 1 in my book, especially since I enjoy several episodes in this season more than anything in 1. Canterlot Boutique, Rarity Investigates and Amending Fences are some of the best episodes ever made. All in all, this was a blast.
