S6E12 Spice Up Your Life
I don't quite like this one. Not that it was horrible, or offensively bad or anything, I just feel this is a prime example of what the map episodes just don't work, and the problem with them. They force a narrative way too hard. Rather than make it a Rarity and Pinkie episode, it comes off more as "The map tells Rarity and Pinkie to go to Canterlot and they go their separate way to solve a problem and then swap." It doesn't do a great job solving the friendship issue, and it's very lacking in showing anything between Rarity and Pinkie. The song in particular was really disappointing, as it shouldn't have been that bad for the best singing VA, and on other really fantastic one. The problem with the song was it was just too repetitive, it should not have 3 uses of the chorus like that in a short timeframe. Another problem I had was how Rarity acted. While I wasn't necessarily bothered by how she acted compared to, say, Carts (oh hey that's coming up soon...), I think her behavior of "the best thing to do is copy what others have done" that's really completely unlike her. Her advise would be more about bringing what others find appealing into the uniqueness that someone already has, not just mimic others. So that wasn't fantastic. The ending was nice though, but all in all, this felt like a very forced episode, just to bring back the map in particular, when instead a little rework could have gone a long way.
