It sounds to me like you're mostly doing it right. Don't puppet her, but when you know where she is, try to focus on her, with your eyes open. Make your eyes shift focus so they are where she would be if she were flesh. Also, incorporate your other senses.

How long should it be until I get any progress? I know it varies from person to person, but just an estimate? It took me about 5 months to finally "hear" her (I put that in quotation marks since she's limited to a head voice at the moment, rather than a external voice), if that makes it easier to say.

I can't speak from experience as I've never actually tried to create any kind of thoughtform more advanced than an ordinary thoughtform, never something like a tulpa, I've only studied how to do it. However, in my own experience a couple of weeks was all that was needed to get a minor independence in the thoughtforms I did create. You sound like you're well beyond that in behavior, but I could also see the thoughtforms, better than it sounds like you can your tulpa, but couldn't hear, touch, taste or smell them, and it sounds like you can sort of do that.

I don't know what to say other than keep practicing, because there are cases of tulpae being accidentally created, so you can hardly fail as long as you keep at it. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
