A little farther along, and we found this thing, which is apparently called a spark chamber. It's filled with helium, and detects cosmic rays by the way they cause a spark as they pass through.
There were a lot of sparks; no more than a few seconds between them, and usually not even that, so I wanted to score a pic with a spark in it. It was harder than I thought, and took 12 snaps before I finally succeeded.
