So the job I wanted most, the job I worked the hardest to get, has completely passed me up in favor of "other candidates". I'm pretty depressed, and I'm starting to think that self-employment may be my only answer.

I'm sorry to hear that, CP. You seemed to have your heart set on this job, whatever it was. Just give your pony some hugs, and relish the fact that you have each other. Keep trying, and whether you get another shot at a job you want, or you go the route of self-employ, she'll be there for you.
