I think this is a good thread. I will necro it.
Canon to me is just a set of guidelines so to say. Some that make sense, some that are a bit out there. At the end of the day, the show is written by human beings, and I think taking that as law over how I feel is silly. Sure there are elements that I feel are "canon" and I let that set up my own guidelines so to say based on what I felt was established to me in terms of who she is. Something like "It isn't the Mane Thing About You" definitely falls in line with what I know about her behavior, while something like "Carts Before the Ponies" definitely does not. So I basically honestly just pick and choose, because that makes me happy. And it's not hurting anyone, so really, what skin is it off of anyone's nose so long as I don't force it upon others?
Fandom perspectives, I must say, never cared for them. I can't think of any I take from that.
