"Esdeath?" I asked curiously, the door creaking shut to snap up the last bits of light let in from the outside world. Wind whistling in the dying hours of daylight, the warmth of the home greeted me with utmost familiarity.
"Must be out," I thought to myself, probably hunting...or torturing. Probably both. I chuckled to myself at that one, making my way deeper into the home quietly. The darkness disturbed by only a few dim lights here and there, but I felt no incentive to brighten the room further as I found serenity in the shadows. Breathing out in a sense of peacefulness I leisurely sat down in a chair, the leather groaning slightly as it adjusted to me, my fingers digging into the squishy armrests.
The silence was comfortable. In contrast to most I enjoyed it, the dim lights casting abstract shadows on the walls and ceiling, the sound of my breathing and the clicking of my blinking eyelids.
So absorbed was I in my thoughts I was startled when a pair of strong yet definitely feminine arms draped themselves over my shoulders and locked around my chest. I gasped and would've hopped out of seat were it not for the arms holding me in place, the sultry chuckle of a familiar voice reached my ears, locks of blue hair spilling over the leather as she leaned down.
"You really ought to be more observant," Esdeath purred in my ear, giving me an affectionate squeeze.
"I am observant," I playfully retorted, though my heart still raced. Was it from the surprise or because of Esdeath? "I was just thinking is all."
"Hmm," she trailed a finger along my jaw and I all but prayed she wouldn't notice the redness that was surely lighting up my cheeks and the heat that was nipping the tips of my ears. That was one thing about Esdeath, she was much more...hands on. Always going in for a hug, a caress, a nuzzle, or holding my hand. Physical contact was a must for her, not that I truly objected but sometimes it was a tad shocking. Receiving all that attention.
"You're always thinking," she stated. It was true really. There almost wasn't a moment where I wasn't locked in thought. "I'm going to sit with you," Esdeath said, or rather declared. There would be no arguing. But again, that implied I would object. She was very direct.
Her white uniform gave the impression of an angel detaching from the deep shadows, long blue hair shifting and flowing with each graceful step. Casually removing her hat and loftily tossing it on the table she completed her quick journey to the front of where I sat, looking down at me sweetly. From my vantage point it made her look even taller, her long, well muscled legs further accentuated by the thigh length high heeled boots she wore.
"There's really nowhere for you-"
"Yes there is," she cut me off in a honeyed toned before gently planting herself in my lap. It was quite a thing, being this close to her. It was amazing how sweet and caring she could be, an absolute one eighty to what she'd likely been doing before she returned. Slowly I brought my arms up to enclose around her hips and judging by the smile on her face she approved of my actions immensely. A clock ticked endlessly from some unseen area of the living room. A hand stroked my hair tenderly and she continued to meet my eyes with her piercing, icy blue ones.
What was with me and the color blue?
She snapped her fingers close to my left ear to draw me back into the moment, giggling slightly as I was undoubtedly was blushing like a buffoon again. Esdeath pulled me close, pressing me against her soft chest. Being this close made her lips look all the softer and more tempting. Returning her embrace and resting my head against her chest I could tell she was beaming happily at this point even if I couldn't see her face. Contrary to popular belief, her skin wasn't freezing cold, despite her power. It was warm and supple, and within her chest beat a human heart.
She sighed happily. Her grip not allowing me to pull away.
"You're cute, especially when you squirm," she purred, running a finger along the length of my spine to make me shiver.
"I'm surprised you didn't put a collar on me when you first came to me those few months ago," I replied, feeling proud to have regained some of my wits. I'll admit she could catch me off guard far easier than most and have me blushing like a shy schoolboy.
Esdeath allowed me to pull back somewhat, her hands moving to my face, softly caressing them to slowly travel towards my exposed neck whilst she thought.
"Hm, I'd thought about it. You would look good in one." There was that matter of fact tone once more. To my credit I didn't blush but I'd be lying if I said her candidness didn't my eyes bulge, the sensation of fingers softly running across the sides of my neck flustered me further.
Esdeath laughed, snuggling herself closer and resuming her strong but very caring embrace. Bashfulness ebbing away I hugged her back, resting my chin atop her right shoulder, the scent of her beautiful hair further lulling me into peace.
It's the moments like this where it fully hits me as to just how fortunate I really am.
