I must say I'm glad I watched Valhalla Rising first and found the interview where Nicolas Winding Refn discussed the fact that One-Eye and Driver are the same character, just in a different time. It really enhanced the viewing experience and made me far more well equipped to detect the reoccurring themes. Great movie.
