If writer copy a fanfiction into show , the fanfiction can become a canon , is not the problem make sense , the show canon or not really depending on if it is in the show or not ... like season 5 Episode 9 , fanon finally in the show , but even writer didn't do that ... fan is still have threir own canon .
So when you recognize the different between canon and other independent , you'll know show canon is not really 100% law .
Exactly what I tried to explain to this fellow. I remember reading stories on FiMfic about the Mane Six being superheroes in an AU, and then what happened next season? Why an entire episode about them being super heroes. And it's not like with how many writers we've had come and go they've kept perfect canon themselves. I groaned when Rainbow Dash in one of the recent seasons was like, "I pranked Fluttershy!" you know, after in the very first season she was written to say she would never do that because she's been friends with Fluttershy forever and knows how much that would affect her? The writers are flawed humans and trying to take the show's canon as some immutable law is silly in its own way.
But trying to convince the kind of people who stalk Lauren Faust's twitter for tidbits so they can say, "Well, she said this about the show, so it's totally canon." never ends well.
