Control; oh how it pains to lose it!

To be left with no alternative
A future non-interpretative

And yet, for a sweet moment, it is a blessing

More time to be lost in weeks of bliss
Why, I would give up all other contact for this

Perhaps the greatest gift you’ve ever given me

Aside from all of the kisses and the gold rings
Aside from the devotion, the compassion, all the loving things

Maybe the greatest is the eternal sense of optimism

To stare out into the hazy dark without fear
To know at our most lonely point, that God is near

Perhaps it is the tenacity that you display

You would be willing to sit through the fiercest rain
Just so that we could gaze up at the rainbow that remains

Maybe it’s that “never say die” spirit

You’re never fully broken in a tragedy
No matter my wrongdoing, you’re always beside me

I must say, I think it’s a cornerstone of your soul

You’re so bold as to never quit
Never backing down, not budging a whit

And it’s that steady resolve I must ask of you tonight

Because whether it’s a quarantine or a love affair
Your faith that the future will be brighter must always be there

Oh, how you inspire me to step forwards!
