The Carnival
I sighed in disappointment as I looked at the small prize in my hand. "It's not good enough, not for her."
"Everything alright?" Nightmare Rarity spoke, jolting me out of my thoughts and causing me to hurriedly but with some care, hide the little prize in my pocket. She seemed a bit out of place at a carnival of all places, with bright lights and a variety of rides, happy people and ponies...not to mention candy and other unhealthy foods. Ironically enough she'd been the one to insist we go, every couple had to experience the joy of a carnival at least once.
"Yeah, I'm fine Nightmare," I replied putting on a happy face, disappointment lingered in my gut however, "what do you want to do next?"
"Hmm," she looked around, she was without any royal attire as she insisted on keeping it casual, but she was still stunning as ever. Her mane flowed as she looked around to determine what would be our next stop. "Roller coaster?" She teasingly raised a brow.
"Ha ha, no."
"Ferris wheel?"
I looked over at the big metal wheel, currently unoccupied, the carnival grounds steadily emptying out as the sky darkened bit by bit. Which I was fine with...noisy children were never pleasant.
"Sounds good to me," I smiled and we made our approach. Passing a few vendors and the entrance to the house of mirrors. My hand felt the lump in the pocket of which I'd hidden the prize before I remembered the last of the cash I brought was in the other one. The operator of said ferris wheel smiled politely at the two us as I handed him the money, gesturing for us to take the next available passenger car.
It was small, so we were close together as the bar locked into place to keep us from falling out (not that that would even happen to begin with) and the big metal wheel began it's so turning.
"Never been on one of these before," I said, watching as the ground seemed to get farther and farther away. Overlooking the carnival grounds themselves and gradually the town surrounding it. Buildings lit up as the night life began once again.
"Neither have I."
"I guess every couple should ride a ferris wheel together at some point huh?" I asked, the sky had only a shade of orange in it, stars faintly visible as we ascended higher and higher.
"I would think so, my dear," she looked over at me with a beautiful smile, her eyes shining into mine. It would be only seconds before we reached the very top. Mustering my courage and I fumbled around in my pockets.
"Nightmare, uh...I wanted to try to win you something bigger I'm sorry, but," I finally managed to get the little prize out of my pocket, "here."
Carefully she took it into her hooves, holding it as though it were the frailest yet most precious thing in the world. It was a tiny sea turtle plush, barely the size of my hand. It was a well made plush, soft and green, a finely detailed little shell, four flippers and a small tail. An innocent face with a smile sewn onto it.
"I really tried to win something bigger for you-," before I get could another word out she kissed me. Her lips locking onto mine quickly causing me to embrace the moment, my arms wrapping around her shoulders, fingers caressing her soft, sparkling mane.
We pulled away slowly, her eyes half lidded lovingly.
"I adore it," she said.
The sun had set, and the ferris wheel was slowly ascending down. Satisfaction soaring in my chest that I had made her so happy.
