While your constitution and strength stats might later diminish later in life, intelligence and especially wisdom tend to increase with time; sometimes dexterity, as well (provided, perhaps, you aren't an ambidextrous axe-wielder).

The thing I tend to bemoan about the Life RPG is that I can't off low level enemies outside my village for quick cash.

You could before the "Law" patch that prevents hunting without a license. A lot of people didn't have the stomach for it anyway.
