Esports- a discussion.

So ! Come here to discuss E sports as a whole.

For those who don't know, Esports is essentially Professional Gaming. While a professional scene in gaming has existed since the 90s with games such as Quake, just recently it has grown mainstage with millions tuned into to watch- and millions of dollars on the line.

I primarily follow the Dota 2 scene. Current favourite teams are Evil Geniuses, Team Secret, Cloud 9 and Natus Vincere.

What are your thoughts on Esports or professional gaming in general ? Any teams or games that you follow ?

I think they sort of "ruin" gaming. As long as they stay in certain genres I suppose it's fine, but it creates an atmosphere to those games that makes them completely unpenetrable for me, and I know several others. An atmosphere that is all about winning the game and being as perfect a player as possible. I mostly game to relax, so a competitive game utterly ruins the point of picking up a controller or double clicking the short cut for me.

Well if a game can get competitive, it will become competitive in some way.

Though a lot of the most popular Esports are games that can be played strictly casually, such as Dota and CS.

There's also usually an abundance of resources for newer players to learn both the game and the scene. You don't have to get into the scene but if you want to there's stuff to help with that.
