When the passion thawed
We were able to relax
We were shocked and awed
At the apparent lack
Of the oh-so common, flawed
Attempt at tact

Rather, we were finally together
In a truly vulnerable way
And I pray that we will never
See the mournful day
And that our passion would forever
Lead us away

On a tangent of fantasy
A force of emotional might
Past the Milky Way galaxy
Into space’s deep, eternal night
Far out in the never-ending sea
Of glistening starlight

My mind runs wild
As I hold you by my side
And in my memory I have filed
Every detail of this wild ride
How glad I am that our love is not mild
Our boldness fills my heart with pride

The evening begins
And my nerves are frazzled
But by the morning light I know
My heart will be dazzled

My eyes are weary
Bloodshot from the strain
But I know very shortly
You’ll ease all my pains

The joints of my fingers are tired
And cracked from the frigid weather
But I know that all will be right
As long as we are together

The evening lights dim
And on with the show
Our lips draw closer together
As our thoughts dash to and fro

To share this wonder with you
Is one of the greatest blessings
That man has ever known
To ease his stressing

So I’ll relax, sit back
And let you work your wonders
As my heart capsizes from the love
And I let it go under

And as you embrace and slowly heal me

The sweltering sun curls the corners of the dashboard
And I sit with a smile on my face 
As precious moments together I hoard
And just as the signpost instructs
We take the last exit toward

Some tiny, forgotten cow town
On the edge of the frontier
And as we drive the downtown, there’s not a soul around
And we fret we may hit empty
Until that glowing, black square in the sky is found

With a tank freshly full of sixty six
And a cup holder full of crisp refreshments
We can rejoin the road and get our kicks
And as the gritty smell of the midwest comes in through the vent
We rest assured that by journey’s end we’ll have our fix

How good it is to see the highway
Shiny and onyx as if it was laid yesterday
A strand of dark pearls sprayed
With the jaunty line of yellow stripes
Succeeds in releasing my nerves from their fray

And as we disappear over a golden horizon
Silhouetted by the shadows of the falling eve
We will both keep our eyes fixed on
The joy that lays before us
In that great beyond

Hey Warden, I’m going to come back to your question when I have some more time to answer. It’s pretty late right now, LOL. In the meantime, I have a new one to post:

The sweltering heat bears down
The summer is coming yet again
And with it comes an old friend
A friend I have long awaited to come around

The humid air brings down your hair
As the warm spring rain pings on the roof
And so we will take this as proof
That this moment was designed for us to share

So out we step, a leap of faith
Each in our hearts the other trusts
Until all Earthly things return to dust
And our souls contour our love as iron from a lathe

Such a special moment in the growing heat
When one gazes into their lover’s eyes
Realizes they’ve won so great a prize
That they need not fear some future defeat

Because love like ours is true
We see it both in the passion of the day
And in the dedication to stay
Until we can be together; until Earthly time is through
