S1E11: WInter Wrap Up

Oh boy, I was looking forward to this, my favourite episode in Season 1 I think. This was the episode after which I said "dang, I love this, now I gotta watch all of it".
The themes are relatable, the ponies all act great, the song is amazing. super episode, I love it.

What I found especially diabetes-inducing this time around, was Pinks singing
We've kept our hoovsies warm at home
Time off from work to play

That made me hnnnng on every possible level.

My only complaint is that summer sucks, and wrapping up winter is a big mistake.

A lot of people share your opinions on this one, and for good reason; it really is one of the best episodes of the entire series, not just season 1. One of the best songs, too.

And yeah, Summer sucks, but then comes the best season of all: Fall.

S7E12: Discordant Harmony

Finally, I can make an official post again, yessss.

I don't generally like Discord. I don't like him as a character, and I don't really find him all that funny. The wacky random sense of humor just doesn't quite do it for me. However, I Found this episode to be better than his norm, as for once we see him not act in the self-centered obnoxious way as he usually does in his episodes, how he inconveniences the M6 in several ways. So if they are actually trying to make Discord a better character, this is at least a good start. There wasn't a lot that nagged me about this one, aside from the fact that this particular felt very familiar, too close to Party Pooped back in S5, but maybe slightly different. That being said, it certainly wasn't bad. I just don't think there was a lot I particularly pulled out of it aside from the bit of improvement to Discord.

S1E12: Call of the Cutie

Start of the CMC arch, solid episode on its own, introduces new characters and explains this whole CM system those horses got going more.
A few minor things bug me, it's not one of my favourites, but AB carries this for me. Definitely enjoyable.

S7E13: The Perfect Pear

And here I am at the one everyone keeps talking about. What did I think of it? Well it was good, I think it did enough justice for the much anticipated "Apple Parents episode" and I think it did a very good job with the guest stars too. Normally, my main problem with some guest stars is I feel that some guests merely play an animated version of themselves, and it doesn't feel like they're a character, rather just them in the show. I feel like that absolutely isn't the case here, Shatner and Day did a fabulous job giving life to these new characters, and there was a great song. I'm sure this was particularly a favorite to any Apple family lovers. All in all, very good episode. At this point, I would say S7 is doing very, very well. Much better than how S6 was for me. I look forward to the rest of it for sure.

Though would you believe I've never had a pear before?

S1E13: Fall Weather Friends

That's a fun one for sure, I like the simple character-driven premise. I think it's a fine display of how something harmless like a friendly competition can escalate into when you're not on the same page on certain things.
AJ and RD work well here, but I feel like this is one of those instances where the presence of Twilight feels a tad forced. Like, the fact that she wins the race because she stayed calm and paced herself is a nice touch and can surely teach something about, uh, stuff. But the episode would have worked without her just the same.

Also ponies in front view look weird.

I feel like I'm saying this about way too many episodes, but again, this one's alright, not one of my favourites though.

S1E14: Suited for Success

Great ep, wonderful in showing Rarity's character and what she's about. easily my favourite Rarity episode in S1.
I love the song and how it's been entangled into the episode. It doesn't feel like a song, but rather like a musical really, which is always great to see.
The scenes that are meant to awkward, like when they see the dresses, or when they present the new ones later on, really are uncomfortable for me, they're quite well done.
Like always I love the scenes where Pinkie is in, but I don't think I really need to mention that...

Episode: Friendship is Magic (Part 1 & 2)

So, this is where the show began. Looking back at the episode, and knowing 7+ seasons of context about the chatacters, it makes you look at the episode differently. Rather then wondering how the characters will progress as the show goes on, it becomes more of a reflection of how they've progressed. Plus, I'm looking for more little details within the episode, rather then ignoring that sorta stuff like I do with most first watches.

Anyway, as for the episode itself, it's a fun adventure where we meet our favourite socially awkward unicorn (gosh, it feels weird typing that) and the 5 best friends she makes. I love how each character is introduced, but especially Pinkie. Just watching her antics makes me daww throughout the episode. I think the introductions are the best part, as the second half shows why these characters are important. Not to say I hate it though, I can't stop singing that Giggle at the Ghosties song, damn it! And that implication of Rarity slaying that sea creature gets me everytime! I feel overjoyed and happy when the mane 6 discover their element and defeat Nightmare Moon. Overall, it's a good introduction to the show. They introduced 6 great main characters well and it makes me wanna watch more old pony! Oh, and did I mention this was the episode where I first laid eyes on my waifu? Truly beautiful.

Verdict: 8 hooves up / 10

Afterthought: Watching this episode, and seeing Twilight completely ignore Moondancer's party, knowing the context of what happens, makes me sadder then it should. How dare you, Twilight!
