Gentian's Lexical Tomfoolery
#1
I have a lot of threads here. Gray suggested a while ago that I create a general thread for my pics, to make them easier to find. Sounds like a good idea. With all the verbal abortions I squeeze out, a general for them is probably in order too. So, with that in mind, I'm going to put links to my extant poetry/song/whatever threads here, and add something new too. In the future, this will be where my new stuff will end up being posted.

Thanks, Gray.

Edit: Here's a new thread showcasing one of my stories I'm converting from greentext to prose: A Blueberry and Her Greenery: http://waifucentral.com/thread-644.html
Another story: Students of Heaven

And my new thread for NSFW stuff.

Now for the new thingie.

The Villanous Noble introduced me to a new kind of poem called a tanka. A little research shows it's format is surprisingly varied, but in the west, is most commonly given a 5/7/5/7/7 meter, and may or may not contain a volte.

Here's a humble attempt: A Demigoddess Goes Slumming

In darkness she grins
calling her power, sparkling
eyes in horn's soft light,
but brighter still her heart flares:
Violet burns for Gentian.

Thanks, EP! Every once in a while, some idea will congeal from whatever made it's nest between my ears, and I'll play around with it. Occasionally, since Twi found me, the results will even be worth sharing. I'm glad that someone else found it enjoyable!

Hey, this is awesome! All of your wonderful work compiled into one place is pretty convenient, and it'll make for a nice guide for future nostalgia trips. I'm looking forward to whatever threads you create in the future! Twilight Smile

Damn, Kadae, that's really sweet. I don't believe anyone's used the word "nostalgia" in connection with me before. Those other delightful adjectives are undeservedly high praise as well, imho. Still, they sure do feel nice. My stories, artwork and such tend to be ignored when I post them elsewhere, so this is a welcome turn. Thank you.

This is something I wrote at McDonald's during break today. Between the Loco Moco Burger, chicken nuggets with curry sauce, fries, and summer-orange shake, I started thinking of MLP. From there, it's usually a short hop over to Twilight, but this time, she came in a round-about way.

You see, through the window, I was watching an excavator digging trenches for a new building. The stones and dirt it pulled up reminded me of Maud, and her poetry. I said to myself: "I've never written a free-form poem a la Maud before." Can't let that slide, now can I? So I put away my newest cutie mark-patch, project, ignored the gaggle of high school girls in very short skirts who seemed to think a restaurant was the perfect place for practicing folk dance, and put pen to paper. Twilight, as my muse, popped in to inspire me, and this is what I came up with.

Please enjoy!

Hmmm, this is not good. The spaces are an integral part of the poem, but WC keeps auto-formating them out. Well, it's also up on my DA journal, in the format I intended. The link is the "website" button below my sig, if you want to see it.

Oh I didn't know you had so many poems. I had to save Boomdeyada, because it made me tear up. Years ago, when watching the Discovery Channel, would also bring me great joy. And all your other poems are, sweet. I love your poems. I'm sure Twilight loves them too

You saved one of my works? Really? Wow, than you! It's kind of neat knowing somebody else liked one enough to want to keep a copy around. Of course, basing it on the Discovery Channel's awesome advertisement helped a lot. I used to keep Discovery or the History Channel, or sometimes A&E on in the background. It's been a long time since I could watch them though, I wonder if they're still good?

Thanks again. No button for you? I wonder if it's only visible to me? It should be on the bottom left corner of my post, under the Arthur Schopenhauer quote in my signature, next to the PM button.

Oh, wait, didn't you say you browsed on your phone? Maybe the mobile version of the site doesn't have that? Well, just in case, here you go. The formatting really does make a difference.

Something new. I've had an image in my mind for some time, of sitting with Twilight on a grassy hill, under a solitary, spreading oak tree. How we get there, and why, and for how long never seems to matter. I imagine a lot of other scenarios too, but always return to this one. I was in the mood to write something, and this little fantasy returned at just the right time to be written about. Still, on it's own, it's too short to satisfy the urge to put thoughts to page, so I expanded it.

Anyway, as always, I hope you enjoy it.

A Day With Twilight
or
A Collection of Equestrian Scenes in Haiku Form

Eyes closed, I wake to
dawn's mute chill, and her warm fur;
all's right in my world.

What surprise to find,
for us, my Princess made brunch:
bread, jam, and...bacon?!

Wing-in-hand we walk
through Ponyville's smiling streets;
our special place calls.

Purple on my lap,
dozing 'neath wind-stirred oak, a
cricket sings to us.

From steam-warmed tiles
her sighs echo as we wash
each other's bodies.

By soft fire-light,
we share both rug and book. My
fingers comb her mane.

Snuggled close we kiss,
and gentle words exchanged, fall
to sleep's sweet embrace.
