An episode a day
I really feel like rewatching he show atm, and I thought, why not make a little journal-ish thing out of it like Rares did?
So I'll just go ahead and hijack this thread for that purpose, starting with S1E1&2 after work in a few hours.

Well that's a comfy start for sure, isn't it? I remember that when I saw them for the first time I was asking myself if I should really be doing this right now, but halfway throughout I noticed that I was unironically enjoying all of it.
And now I'm still unironically enjoying all of it I guess.

So the opener is obviously not perfect, but it does a great job at introducing the main characters and at throwing you into that world. And heck, it's an opener, so I think you can forgive some minor issues. And when I think about openers from other shows, it's actually really good as an episode (or a two-parter) on its own.

I'd give it 11/15 Elements of Harmony.

S1E03: the Ticket Master

Comfy SoL episode, nothing too heavy, Characters get introduced a bit more, two little Pinkie jingles, nice conclusion.
Not one of my absolute favourites, but always a pleasure to watch.

I give it 10/15 Tickets to the Grand Galloping Gala

What do you think of the idea Celestia deliberately sent 2 tickets knowing about her friends to teach Twi a life-lesson?

she obviously wanted to teach twilight the lesson of "sometimes you have to make choices", but Twilight turned it around and learned something else instead.

I just think the tickets were intended for Twilight and Spike, Celestia probably didn't intend to bring anyone else in on it, but it probably occurred to her after she got the note back. Sorta like an "Oh, duh." type of moment.

Pretty much this. I don't think the thought about the other m5 needing tickets crossed her mind at the time of sending them

S1E04: Applebuck Season

This one made me realize the difference between th episodes of earlier season and the ones of later seasons a bit. The cat-like features, horse puns, a more comfy feeling, and just a different attitude towards the world. Not to say earlier eps are better than later eps, they're just different, and I can see why people would prefer them. Even though I wasn't there when S4+ wasn't around, so idk, just my thoughts on it.

anyhow, nice ep, I like earlier seasons AJ, later seasons seem to handle her a bit worse I feel, but that's definitely a good one. Shows her strengths and flaws a bit in an understandable way.

I can't agree with this enough. Early-AJ was a much more sympathetic and realistic portrayal of her, imho.

S1E05: Griffon the Brush Off

I always remembered this ep as being rather meh, but I actually found it a bit better this time. Most probably because the amount of screentime Pinks gets though.

The first few minutes are just so good to watch, I love hearing Pinkie laugh, I like how nopony gets mad about a few pranks, everybody is having a good time, very comfy.
When Gilda appearsm, I get kind of uncomfortable. Maybe because I don't really like her, maybe because I don't like how she disrupts that good mood, Probably both.

The ending always puzzles me a bit, so Pinks is throwing a party for Gilda to improve her attitude? Okay, I guess that's her style. RD is planning some pranks that unfortunately all get triggered by Gilda. It's kind of implied that Pinkie made those pranks, and considering how she acts when G confronts her you'd think that she was pulling them to get back at her, but she later reveals that she didn't know about them. So the question is, why did she act like that when she was acting way different when Gilda was being a meanie earlier.

But as I said, the first minutes were very nice, I didn't even remember that she was laughing so much there, which sounds amazing in my ears. I'm probably more focused on her now.
Dang, I love that horse.
