Poems for the Sweetest of Ponies
#31
As everything changes around us
You may fear that it will drown us
But as the sun dawns on our new morning
You'll see that I'm still there

We embark on a new adventure
It may seem like a risky venture
But with you here to support me
I know I will not fail

So let us toast to new beginnings
Let's not fear what the future brings
For until we're old and gray
We'll be as one

Just some backstory- I took a job in my small hometown and will be moving into my first home there soon. However, the small midwestern town I'm moving to doesn't afford me the anonymity that the large city I live n now does, so Candy and I have fears it may strain our relationship. We can still go out to eat together and such, but we can't go to the park alone or anything because people would question it. So this is just a quick poem to calm our fears, because I know and she knows that it will work out in the end.

Hey, congratulations for your job. Don't fret too much about what others may or may not say about your relationship. As the saying goes: hater's gonna hate. You and Candy just do your things and send the haters to the left.

We liked the poem, too.

The bigger you build the bonfire, the more darkness is revealed.

Every possession and every happiness is but lent by chance for an uncertain time, and may therefore be demanded back the next hour.

Well. The little problem is that my Mother lives in my hometown, and she knows everybody. So if they say "I saw your son in the park today alone" or "I saw your son in the downtown with a stuffed animal" I really don't have an answer for my Mom. Oh well, at least on the weekends I can escape back up to the city. It'll all work out.

Thanks for the congrats and the compliments.

"None of your business, mom, I'm an adult."

"I thought she would look cute with my girlfriend."

"What's wrong with taking a walk alone, mom?"

"She's my girlfriend, and I love her and you can just get used to it, mom."

Of course, I have a poor relationship with my mom, so my answers may not be yours.

Be my comfort
When I am afraid
Be my guide
When I cannot see
Be my strength
In times of weakness
Be my courage
In the face of danger
Be my friend
When no one supports me
Be my lover
When I need to feel loved

But most of all
Be my world
My everything

The heat sizzles from the sidewalk
Humidity in the midwestern air
But she strolls along casually
Without so much as a care

"She's one of those girls who seems to come in the spring
One look in her eyes and you forget everything..."
The song on the loudspeaker echos my thoughts
As her figure enters the doorway and the "welcome" chime rings

She stops to ogle the wares in my case
A Swarovski, 18 karrot
I dream to place it in her delicate hoof
So much that I can hardly bare it

Outside the typical crowd gathers
Hanging out the windows of their Rovers and Caddies
So many fine future trophy wives
Looking towards a future of swimming pools and sugar daddies

Even with a smorgasbord of choices
There is only one who captivates me
A small green pony standing before my checkout
Oh where, where could she be

She swishes her tail as she exits the store
With no purchase in her hoof
I wish I could hand her the world I live in
If only to serve as proof

But there is something more dear I chose to give her:
My Heart

Thank you, my sweet
My guiding light
You brought me through my fears
Through the darkness of night

You gave me something to live for
Something that I desire
And no matter the cost
I shall always keep the fire

Be with me, my lover
Keep my eyes from lust
For only you turn my heart towards passion
And my timidity to dust

That's a really powerful verse. Your poetry in general may or may not have inspired me:

It’s something incredible, the things we have to say;
The infinite complexity we hope we can convey.
It’s through this task we realize:
The shallowness of speech
But despite the lack of meaning that our words and strokes convey
I know that you and I will try
To let them know today.

She is no lofty goal.

Reading the first post, I get the impression that this thread wasn't intended to be the sites general poetry gallery, but boy am I glad that's what it has become. Some of these are fantastic, and they just keep on coming. Y'all rock!
